Alaíde Foppa
Alaíde Foppa (1914 – ''c.'' 1980?) was a Guatemalan poet, writer, feminist, art critic, teacher and translator. Born in Barcelona, Spain she held Guatemalan citizenship and lived in exile in Mexico. She worked as a professor in both Guatemala and Mexico. Much of her poetry was published in Mexico and she co-founded one of the first feminist publications, ''Fem'', in the country. After her husband's death, she made a trip to Guatemala to see her mother and renew her passport. She was detained and disappeared in Guatemala City on 19 December 1980, presumed to be murdered. Quiché Department
Quiché () is a department of Guatemala. It is in the heartland of the K'iche' (Quiché) people, to the north-west of Guatemala City. The capital is Santa Cruz del Quiché. The word K'iche comes from the language of the same name, which means "many trees". Population Quiché has historically been one of the most populous departments of Guatemala. At the 2018 census it had a population of 949,261. Maya people, Mayans account for 88.6% of the department's population. K'iche' people are the largest Mayan ethnic group in the department, and account for 65.1% of the total population. The department is named after them. In July 2005, in an abandoned warehouse in downtown Guatemala City, Guatemala, delegates from the country's Institution of the Procurator for Human Rights uncovered, by sheer chance, a vast archive detailing the history of the defunct National Police and its role in the Guatemalan Civil War. Over five rooms full of files containing names, address, identity documents, were brought to light. The store of documents measures nearly length, and contains records dating back as far as the late nineteenth century (1882) and as recent as 1997.. Since the discovery, forensic teams have been carefully archiving the files they have found, with the help of specialized organizations like Benetech and Human Rights Data Analysis Group, and software such as Martus. Jorge Castañeda y Álvarez de la Rosa (1 October 1921 – 11 December 1997) was a Mexican diplomat. He served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs from April 1979 to 30 November 1982, during the administration of José López Portillo. He was the father of Jorge Castañeda Gutman, who later also served as Foreign Secretary from 2000 to 2003. Born in Mexico City, Castañeda y Álvarez studied law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he also later lectured, along with teaching positions at the Colegio de México and the Escuela Libre de Derecho. It provided the focus of political debate and revolutionary law-making between the periods of the National Constituent Assembly and of the National Convention.
