Alan Taylor (Australian Judge)
Sir Alan Russell Taylor KBE QC (25 November 1901 – 3 August 1969) was an Australian judge who served as a Justice of the High Court of Australia from 1952 until his death in 1969. Early life Taylor was born in 1901 in Newcastle, New South Wales. Brought up in an Anglican family, Taylor initially wanted to join the church, but obtained a job as a public servant while waiting to study to be a priest, and was eventually employed in the office of the Solicitor-General of Australia, where he developed an interest in law. Taylor studied at Fort Street Boys' High School and the University of Sydney, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree, with honours, in 1926. Later that year, Taylor was admitted to the New South Wales Bar. In 1933, he married Ceinwen Williams, with whom he would later have a son and a daughter. Alan Taylor (1924 – January 1997) was a television presenter, popular in Wales and the West Country during the 1960s and 1970s. Taylor was originally from Cardiff, where his family had an electrical business. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He began his television career as a continuity announcer with TWW in 1959. He also appeared in early episodes of "''Paint Along With Nancy'' on HTV where he assisted the host. After presenting a birthday slot with a glove puppet called "Tinker", he went on to host a regular children's magazine programme called ''Tinker and Taylor'' on which he would often play the Melodica with the puppet. In the early 1970s he presented a Saturday morning children's programme on HTV called ''Orbit'', which featured an alien puppet called "Chester". His Honour Alan Broughton Taylor (born 23 Jan 1939) is a British judge. Alan Taylor graduated from Birmingham University with an LLB degree in law in 1960, going on to undertake postgraduate research at Brasenose College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 1961. Alan Taylor was appointed as a Circuit Judge, sitting on the Midland Circuit, in 1991. He became the Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal, Restricted Patients Panel, in 2001. He was a president of the Mental Health Review Tribunal from 2004 to 2009. Alan Taylor (born 17 May 1943) is a former English football player who played as a goalkeeper. Playing career Taylor began his professional career with Blackpool in 1963 after joining from local club Blackpool Rangers. Due to the form of Tony Waiters, Taylor didn't make his league debut for Blackpool until 29 January 1966, keeping a clean sheet in a goalless draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage. Another goalless draw followed, this time against Tottenham at Bloomfield Road, before Waiters returned to the fold for the remainder of the 1966–67 season. The following season, 1967–68, Taylor made only two early- one late-season league appearances in Waiters' absence. When Waiters left to become a coach at Liverpool in April 1967, thus missing Blackpool's final six games of the season, manager Stan Mortensen favoured another goalkeeper – Kevin Thomas – for five of the games. Alan David Taylor (born 14 November 1953) is an English former professional footballer best known for his goalscoring exploits with West Ham United in their FA Cup success of 1975, culminating in two goals in that season's final. Early career Taylor was born in Hinckley in Leicestershire but as a child his family moved to Lancashire. His career in football started as a youth player at Preston North End but he was released in 1970 following the club's relegation. He then took up a job in car repairs while playing non-league football in Lancashire. Eventually his reputation with Morecambe as a goalscorer prompted Rochdale into making a move for him, taking Taylor into the full-time game for the first time. Alan Shaw Taylor (born June 17, 1955) is an American historian and scholar who is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation Professor of History at the University of Virginia. A specialist in the early history of the United States, Taylor has written extensively about the colonial history of the United States, the American Revolution and the early American Republic. Taylor has received two Pulitzer Prizes and the Bancroft Prize, and was also a finalist for the National Book Award for non-fiction. In 2020 he was elected to the American Philosophical Society. Education Taylor was born in Portland, Maine, the son of Ruel Taylor, Jr. and author Virginia C. Taylor. He graduated from Colby College, in Waterville, Maine, in 1977, and earned his PhD from Brandeis University in 1986.
