Alan Powell (drummer)
Alan Powell is a British musician. In 1964 Alan joined the Manchester R&B band Ivans Meads who released their first single "The Sins of a Family" for EMI in October 1965, followed by "We'll Talk About It Tomorrow" in September 1966. The band split in 1967. His first notable appearances were with Chicken Shack, appearing on the 1974 live album ''Goodbye'', and Vinegar Joe ("Proud To Be a Honky Woman"). He continued his friendship with Robert Palmer from Vinegar Joe co-writing "Gotta Get a Grip on You, Part 2" (from ''Some People Can Do What They Like'' (1976)), "The Silver Gun" (from ''Pride'' (1983)) "Jealous" released as a single from the album ''Secrets'' and "Life in Detail" also released as a single, (from the soundtrack to '' Pretty Woman'' (1990)). Chicken Shack
Chicken Shack are a British blues band, founded in the mid-1960s by Stan Webb (guitar and vocals), Andy Silvester (bass guitar), and Alan Morley (drums), who were later joined by Christine Perfect (later McVie) (vocals and keyboards) in 1967. Chicken Shack has performed with various line-ups, Stan Webb being the only constant member. Career David "Rowdy" Yeats and Andy Silvester had formed Sounds of Blue in 1964 as a Stourbridge-based rhythm and blues band. They invited Stan Webb, who was leaving local band The Shades 5, to join them. Vampires Stole My Lunch Money
''Vampires Stole My Lunch Money'' is a 1978 album by the UK underground artist Mick Farren. Farren had left music performance after his 1970 album ''Mona – The Carnivorous Circus'' to concentrate on journalism and writing. However, in 1976 he had the opportunity whilst in New York to record the single " Play With Fire"/"Lost Johnny" reigniting his interest in performing again. The ''Screwed Up'' EP followed in 1977, recorded for Stiff Records and featuring Larry Wallis, Paul Rudolph, Alan Powell and Andy Colquhoun. Newly formed Logo Records approached Farren with the possibility of re-releasing some of his material but were delighted when he expressed a preference for recording new material. Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. Brian James (guitarist)
Brian James (born Brian Robertson, 18 February 1955) is an English punk rock guitarist, who is best known for being a founding member of The Damned as well as of The Lords of the New Church. Biography He began his musical career playing in several proto-punk bands including London SS and The Subterraneans, in addition to glam rock band Bastard. James moved on to The Damned, writing almost all the material on their first two albums (''Damned Damned Damned'' and '' Music for Pleasure'') before leaving at the end of 1977. In the following years James formed the short-lived Tanz Der Youth together with Andy Colqhoun on bass, Alan Powell on drums and Tony Moore on keyboards. The Damned (band)
The Damned are an English punk rock band formed in London in 1976 by lead vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Brian James, bassist (and later guitarist) Captain Sensible, and drummer Rat Scabies. They were the first punk band from the United Kingdom to release a single, "New Rose" (1976), release a studio album, ''Damned Damned Damned'' (1977), and tour the United States. They have nine singles that charted on the UK Singles Chart Top 40. The band briefly broke up after '' Music for Pleasure'' (1977), the follow-up to their debut studio album, was critically dismissed. They quickly reformed without Brian James, and released ''Machine Gun Etiquette'' (1979). ''Tanz'' is the second recording by American guitarist Tim Sparks on the Tzadik Records label, released in 2000. The word () is Yiddish for dance, cognate to the German word with the same meaning. History After the recording of traditional Jewish music arranged for solo guitar on ''Neshamah'', producer John Zorn combined Sparks with Masada alumni Greg Cohen and Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista. Music critic Ben Kettlewell called the combination of Sparks, Cohen and Baptisto "a wonderful adventure into the myriad of styles of music of the Jewish Diaspora."
