Alan Ladd Jr.
Alan Walbridge Ladd Jr. (October 22, 1937 – March 2, 2022) was an American film industry executive and producer. He was president of 20th Century Fox from 1976 to 1979, during which he approved the production of ''Star Wars'', on his confidence in George Lucas, which proved well-founded. He later established The Ladd Company and headed MGM/UA. Ladd won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1996 for producing ''Braveheart''. Early life Ladd was born in Los Angeles, California, on October 22, 1937. He was the only child of Alan Ladd and Marjorie Jane (née Harrold), who divorced when he was two years old. He initially stayed with his mother, but lived with his father at his estate in Holmby Hills due to her poor health. He later recounted how the time he spent with his father was sparse, and described their relationship as "basically nonexistent". Creative Management Associates (CMA) was an American talent booking agency. Co-founded by Freddie Fields and David Begelman, CMA was instrumental in the development of movie stars, prominent directors, and popular musicians. CMA is credited with pioneering the movie "package", where the talent agency put their stars, directors, and writers together on a single project. The agency was deeply involved with numerous blockbuster films, including ''Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'', ''American Graffiti'', and ''Star Wars.'' Jay Ira Kanter (December 12, 1926 – August 6, 2024) was an American film producer and talent agent, best known for his long association with Alan Ladd Jr. He was an agent at MCA for a number of years. He is also known for his biographical works such as ''Grace Kelly: The American Princess'' (1987), ''Brando'' (2007), and ''Marlon Brando: An Actor Named Desire'' (2014). Personal life Kanter was born to a Jewish family in Chicago, Illinois. He was married to Judy Balaban (daughter of Barney Balaban) from 1953 until they divorced in 1961. The ''Waco Tribune-Herald'' is an American daily newspaper serving Waco, Texas, and vicinity. Background The newspaper has its roots in five predecessors, beginning with the ''Waco Evening Telephone'' in 1892. The ''Tribune-Herald'' took its current identity when E.S. Fentress and Charles Marsh, who owned the ''Waco News-Tribune,'' bought the ''Waco Times-Herald.'' That purchase was the beginning of Newspapers, Inc., a chain that eventually owned 13 newspapers.
