Alan K. Huggins
Alan Keith Huggins (born May 1936) Members of the Order of the British Empire, MBE is a philatelist who in 1981, with Marcus Samuel (philatelist), Marcus Samuel, was awarded the Crawford Medal for his work ''Specimen stamps and stationery of Great Britain''. He specializes in British postal stationery and has been a philatelic expert in the subject since 1980 and an AIEP (International Association of Philatelic Experts) member since 2001. He signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1983 and served as Keeper of the Roll from 2003-2008. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society, London and received its Bacon Medal in 2014 and its Tilleard Medal in 2018. He received the Collectors Club’s Lichtenstein Medal in 1994, the FIP Medal for Service in 2004 and the FEPA Award for Service in 2009. Members Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Royal Philatelic Collection
The Royal Philatelic Collection is the postage stamp collection of the British royal family. It is the most comprehensive collection of items related to the philately of the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth, with many unique pieces. Of major items, only the British Guiana 1c magenta is missing from the collection of British Imperial stamps. In 2020, the value of the collection was estimated by ''The Daily Telegraph'' to be £100 million. The Royal Philatelic Society London (RPSL) is the oldest philatelic society in the world. It was founded on 10 April 1869 as ''The Philatelic Society, London''. The society runs a postal museum, the Spear Museum of Philatelic History, at its headquarters in the City of London. Philatelist
Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. Philately involves more than just stamp collecting or the study of postage; it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums. Etymology The word "philately" is the English transliteration of the French "", coined by Georges Herpin in 1864. The Lichtenstein Medal, also known as the ''Alfred F. Lichtenstein Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Philately'' is given annually to a living individual for outstanding service to philately. Origin The Lichtenstein Medal was established by the Collectors Club of New York in 1952 in honor of noted philatelist Alfred Lichtenstein (philatelist), Alfred F. Lichtenstein (1876-1947).
