Alan J Thompson
Alan J. Thompson, MD, FMedSci, FRCP, FRCPI, is Dean of the Faculty of Brain Sciences at UCL; Pro-Provost for London at UCL; Garfield Weston Professor of Clinical Neurology and Neurorehabilitation at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. He is also a consultant neurologist at the University College London NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust working at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He is Editor-in-Chief for Multiple Sclerosis Journal. Career He studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 1979. He subsequently trained in neurology at St Vincent’s/Adelaide Hospital, Dublin, gaining an MD under the supervision of Professor Michael Hutchinson; and at the Royal London Hospital, and in neurology and neurorehabilitation at Queen Square’s National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. The Royal London Hospital is a large teaching hospital in Whitechapel in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is part of Barts Health NHS Trust. It provides district general hospital services for the City of London and Tower Hamlets and specialist tertiary care services for patients from across London and elsewhere.
