Alan Carter (motorcyclist)
Alan Carter (born 19 August 1964 in Halifax) is an English former professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He competed from 1983 to 1990 in the Grand Prix world championship. Carter won the second Grand Prix race he entered, in the 250cc class at the 1983 250cc French Grand Prix as an eighteen-year-old, creating a sensation. However, he was never able to fulfill his potential and never won another Grand Prix. He had his best season in 1985 when he finished in seventh place in the 250cc world championship. Carter competed in the Superbike World Championship in 1994. Carter is the younger brother of former two-time British Speedway Champion Kenny Carter (1961–1986). Kenny Roberts
Kenneth Leroy Roberts (born December 31, 1951, in Modesto, California) is an American former professional motorcycle racer and racing team owner. In 1978, he became the first American to win a Grand Prix motorcycle racing world championship. He was also a two-time winner of the A.M.A. Grand National Championship. Roberts is one of only four riders in American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) racing history to win the AMA Grand Slam, representing Grand National wins at a mile, half-mile, short-track, TT Steeplechase and road race events. Roberts left his mark on Grand Prix motorcycle racing as a world championship winning rider, a safety advocate, a racing team owner, and as a motorcycle engine and chassis constructor. 1984 Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing Season
The 1984 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season was the 36th F.I.M. Road Racing World Championship season. Season summary Defending champion Freddie Spencer was the pre-season favorite to win the championship however, teething problems with Honda's new V4 and early season injuries squelched his hopes to repeat. In spite of his problems, Spencer still took five wins. Eddie Lawson lived up to his nickname of Steady Eddie with four wins and four second places to secure his first 500cc world championship on a Yamaha. Randy Mamola also had three wins to finish second on a factory backed Honda. It took place on the weekend of 4–6 August at the Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp, Sweden. Race summary One of the most dramatic races in one of the most dramatic Grand Prix seasons ended in controversy as the championship's two main combatants collided on the last lap while battling for the lead. Coming into the Swedish Grand Prix, Honda's Freddie Spencer led Yamaha Motor Company, Yamaha's Kenny Roberts 117 to 115 with each man having won five of the season's ten previous races. 1983 British Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1983 British motorcycle Grand Prix was the tenth round of the 1983 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 29–31 July 1983 at the Silverstone Circuit. The race was split into two races. Entering Stowe Corner on Lap 5, Norman Brown's Suzuki slowed with a mechanical problem. The motorcycle stayed to the inside, but was hit by Peter Huber's Suzuki. It was not until the end of Lap 5 that riders began to enter pit lane, as only a yellow and an oil flag was displayed, but not fully across the track. On Lap 6, officials ended up waving the red flag at the starting line. Brown died instantly, while Huber was rushed by helicopter to a hospital in Oxford, where he was pronounced dead. The race restarted as a split race. The first five completed laps were scored, and the remaining 23 laps were completed shortly after the track was cleared.
