Alan Buchanan (naval Architect)
Alan Buchanan (1922-2015) was an English naval architect and sailor. He designed over 2400 vessels, including yachts that won Admiral's Cup, Cowes Week, and the Fastnet Race. Buchanan started his career as a draftsman and aircraft engineer at the De Havilland Aircraft Company. His family having a summer house in West Mersea, he was a regular visitor from a young age. After he left de Havilland, he started as a boat designer firstly from his home in Enfield and then at his office which he established in Burnham-on-Crouch. In the early years many of his designs were built by the boatyard of William Wyatt in West Mersea and by 1950 he had a busy design office in Burnham employing about ten staff. In 1948 the Burnham boatyard of RH Prior & Son started work on his first design specifically for ocean racing. This was the 10.3 metre (34 feet) ''Red Gurnet''. Saint Peter, Jersey
St Peter (; Jèrriais: ) is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey in the Channel Islands. It is around north-west of St Helier. The parish has a population of 5,003. It has a surface area of . It is the only parish with two separate coastlines, stretching from St Ouen's Bay in the west to St Aubin's Bay in the south, and thereby cutting St Brelade off from other parishes. Maurice Laing
Sir John Maurice Laing (1 February 1918 – 22 February 2008) was a senior executive of British construction company John Laing plc. He was the first president of the Confederation of British Industry in 1965–66. Early life Laing was born in Carlisle, Cumberland, the younger son of Sir John Laing. The family were strict Christian Brethren. Laing's father had been running the family construction firm, John Laing & Son, since 1910, and Laing worked for the firm in his school holidays. The headquarters of the business moved from Carlisle to Mill Hill in 1926, and Laing was educated at St Lawrence College, Ramsgate. In 1935, aged 17, he began to work full-time with his father at the family firm. Meanwhile, his elder brother, Sir William Kirby Laing, studied engineering at Cambridge University. Bonitos are a tribe of medium-sized, ray-finned predatory fish in the family Scombridae – a family it shares with the mackerel, tuna, and Spanish mackerel tribes, and also the butterfly kingfish.
