Alan Edwin Baxter (November 19, 1908 – May 7, 1976) was an American film and television actor. Early years Baxter was born in East Cleveland, Ohio. He earned a bachelor's degree from Williams College, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and a classmate of Elia Kazan. He went on to study in the 47 Drama Workshop at Yale University. Stage After he completed his studies, Baxter became a member of the Group Theatre in New York City. His Broadway credits include ''The Hallams'' (1947), '' Home of the Brave'' (1945), ''The Voice of the Turtle'' (1943), ''Winged Victory'' (1943), ''Thumbs Up!'' (1934), and ''Lone Valley'' (1932). Alan Richard Baxter (born 18 April 1970, Sussex, United Kingdom) is a British-Australian author of supernatural thrillers, horror and dark fantasy, and a teacher and practitioner of kung fu and qi gong. He has published several novels, novellas, collections, and over 100 short stories. He has also co-written several novels with American action-adventure author, David Wood. Alan Cheyne Baxter (19 August 1911 – 14 July 1976) was a New Zealand politician of the Labour Party. Biography Early life and career Baxter was born on 19 August 1911 at Egmont Village. He gained his education at New Plymouth Boys' High School and subsequently at Feilding Agricultural College. Before the war, Baxter was a shepherd in the Wairarapa. While living there he joined the trade union movement in 1939. He joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) in March 1940 and was a flight lieutenant. He was awarded the DFC in October 1942 for his actions in the Dieppe Raid, with a Bar awarded in 1945. The citation for the 1942 award read: On August 19th, 1942, he was observer in the leading aircraft of a formation which participated in the combined operations at Dieppe. When the formation was attacked by some 20 enemy fighters, Pilot Officer Baxter calmly gave directions to his captain, and subsequently his skilful navigation was an essential contribution to the success ... Alain Baxter
Alain Baxter (born 26 December 1973) is a Scottish former alpine skier who was formerly a professional specialising in the slalom discipline. He is best known for failing a drug test after finishing third in the men's slalom of the 2002 Winter Olympics, resulting in him being controversially stripped of the bronze medal; he would have become the first British person to win an Olympic medal in a skiing event. The use of a nasal inhaler purchased in the US had led to the presence of a banned substance in Baxter's urine. He was allowed to return to competition, although his appeal to have the medal reinstated failed. He competed in FIS events from 1991–2009 and became known as "The Highlander".
