Alan Archer
Alan W. Archer (born 1930) is a mycologist and taxonomist. He is currently (January 2021) an honorary research associate at Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney. He uses chemotaxonomy as well as morphological features in taxonomy and to devise keys, most recently for the genus ''Pertusaria'' in the Australasia region. During his career he has characterised and revised over 100 fungal taxa. He is an authority on the family Graphidaceae from the Australia - Pacific region and characterised ''Carbacanthographis salazinica'' and '' Phaeographis salazinica''. He was also the first to characterise several members of the genus ''Pertusaria'', '' Pertusaria ambigua'' '' Pertusaria epacrospora'', '' Pertusaria guineabissauensis'', ''Pertusaria salazinica ''Pertusaria salazinica'' is a species of crustose lichen in the family Pertusariaceae. Mycobank
MycoBank is an online database, documenting new mycological names and combinations, eventually combined with descriptions and illustrations. It is run by the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute in Utrecht. Each novelty, after being screened by nomenclatural experts and found in accordance with the ICN ( International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants), is allocated a unique MycoBank number before the new name has been validly published. This number then can be cited by the naming author in the publication where the new name is being introduced. Only then, this unique number becomes public in the database. By doing so, this system can help solve the problem of knowing which names have been validly published and in which year. ''Pertusaria'' is a large genus of warty crustose lichens in the Pertusariaceae family.Field Guide to California Lichens, Stephen Sharnoff, Yale University Press, 2014, The fruiting bodies are usually modified apothecia that immersed in warts on the main body ( thallus) with small holes for the spores to emerge, similar to ostioles, or are fully above and lecanorine (spore bearing discs surrounded by a ring of tissue similar to the tissue of the thallus. Members of the genus are commonly called wart lichens. The widespread genus contains over 500 species. Classification in the large genus relies heavily on thallus chemistry to distinguish and classify species, some of which differ only in the presence or absence of a single secondary chemical. ''Pertusaria sipmanii'' is a species of crustose lichen in the family Pertusariaceae. Found in Papua New Guinea, it was formally described as a new species in 1998 by Alan Archer and John Elix.
