Alajos Degré
Alajos Degré ( Lippa, Hungary (today in Romania), January 6, 1819 – Budapest, November 1, 1896) was Hungarian lawyer, legal historian, author and one of the key figures of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. Life He was born to a middle-class, urban family. His father was a Frenchman who worked as the chief physician of Temes County, Hungary. His mother was Anna Rácz, the raised daughter of a Hungarian nobleman, György Návay. He had a half-brother, Ignác from his father's first marriage and a sister, Franciska. Because of his father's early death Temes County took over the costs of the education of the Degré children. He did his secondary-school studies in Arad and Szeged. Then he went to Nagyvárad where he studied law for two years. In 1842 he started to work as a jurist in Pest where he got interested in politics and made friends with Lajos Kossuth. Alajos Drávecz
Alajos Drávecz ( sl, Alojz Dravec) (29 November 1866 – 28 August 1915) was a Slovenian ethnologist and writer. Born in Rábatótfalu (now Szentgotthárd). His parents were István Drávecz and Rozália Korpics. The young Drávecz and his wife emigrated to the USA, then came back to Hungary, and settled down in Rábakethely (now Szentgotthárd). In 1915 Drávecz joined the forces and call out in North-Hungary (Slovakia), later in Moravia. He was killed in Lipník nad Bečvou, near Olomouc. Alajos Hauszmann
Alajos Hauszmann (also called as ''Alois'', June 9, 1847 – July 31, 1926) was a Hungarian architect, professor, and member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Life Hauszmann was born in Buda in 1847 into a family of Bavarian origin as the son of Ferenc Hauszmann and Anna Maár (siblings: Hermina (1845–1929), Ferenc (1850–1918) and Kornélia (1854-1837)). He studied painting from 1861, then became a bricklayer's apprentice. Alajos Károlyi
Count Alajos Károlyi de Nagykároly (8 August 18252 December 1889) was an Austro-Hungarian diplomat. Biography He was born in Vienna, into the Hungarian noble family of Károlyi, whose fame dates from the time of Sándor Károlyi (1668–1743), one of the generals of Francis II Rákóczi, who in 1711 negotiated the peace of Szatmár between the insurgent Hungarians and the new king, the emperor Charles VI, was made a count of the Empire in 1712, and subsequently became a field marshal in the imperial army. Alajos Károlyi entered the Austrian diplomatic service at the age of 19, and in 1845 became an attaché to the Berlin embassy. He was assigned successively to Austrian embassies at various European capitals; from 1853 at the diplomatic mission in London. In 1858 he was sent to Saint Petersburg on a special mission to seek the support of Russia in the threatening Franco-Austrian War against Napoleon III. Alajos Ferenc Kenyery (later ''Kronberg'', 13 May 1894 – 9 November 1955) was a Hungarian freestyle swimmer who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. In 1912 he was eliminated in the first round of the 100 metre freestyle event. In the 400 metre freestyle competition he qualified for the semi-finals but he did not start in his heat. He was also a member of the Hungarian relay team which didn't show up at the final of the 4x200 metre freestyle relay event. Alajos Keserű
Alajos Keserű (8 March 1905 – 3 May 1965) was a Hungarian water polo player who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics, in the 1928 Summer Olympics, and in the 1932 Summer Olympics. Born in Budapest, he first competed at the Olympics in 1924. As a member of the Hungarian water polo team he finished seventh. He played all four matches and scored one goal. Also he was part of the Hungarian water polo team which won the silver medal in 1928 and the gold medal 1936. In Amsterdam at the 1928 Summer Olympics he played all four matches and was the top scorer of the tournament with ten goals. Four years later in Los Angeles he played one match. He died in Budapest. Alajos Stróbl
Alajos Stróbl (21 June 1856 – 13 December 1926) was a Hungarian sculptor and artist. His work is characterised by sensitive realistic modelling and he became one of the most renowned sculptors of memorials in Hungary at the turn of the 20th century. Biography Born on 21 June 1856 at Királylehota, Kingdom of Hungary, Austrian Empire (today Kráľova Lehota, Slovakia), Stróbl was a pupil of Kaspar von Zumbusch between 1876 and 1880. He was a young sculptor when his statue of Perseus (1882) gained him widespread attention in Hungary. He created two statues for the façade and two sitting figures (''Erkel'' and ''Liszt'') for the entrance of the Opera. From then on, he became the most popular sculptor in Hungary of memorials. He sculpted the figure of János Arany in the grounds of the Hungarian National Museum in 1893 and the Matthias Fountain in Buda Castle in 1904. Alajos János Szokolyi (also referred to as Alajos Szokoly, ; sk, Alojz Sokol; 19 June 1871 – 9 September 1932) was a Hungarian athlete, sports organizer, sports manager, archivist and physician. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics, winning the bronze medal in 100 metres dash. In the same year he also won the first ever edition of the Hungarian Athletics Championships in 100 yards dash. Early life Szokolyi was born on 9 June 1871 in Rónicz, Kingdom of Hungary (now Hronec, Slovakia) as the first child József Szokoly, an engineer and Emília Holub.
