Columbia is a town in Houston County, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Dothan, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. At the 2010 census the population was 740, down from 804 in 2000. History Founded in 1820, Columbia served as a major trading center for communities throughout the Wiregrass Region of Alabama between 1822–1833, which coincided as its time as Henry County seat. Sneads is a town in Jackson County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. Sneads is governed by a five-member town council and a city manager. It also has an all-volunteer fire rescue department, and its own police force of eight sworn officers: six full-time officers, an Administrative Assistant, and three part-time dispatchers. The largest employer in the Sneads area is the Florida Department of Corrections, which operates Appalachee Correctional Institution, outside the city proper. Blakely, Georgia
Blakely is a city and the county seat of Early County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 5,068. It is located approximately halfway between Columbus and Tallahassee, Florida on U.S. Route 27. History Blakely was platted in 1825 as the county seat for Early County. It was named for Johnston Blakeley, an officer in the War of 1812. Between 1881 and 1947 at least seven African-Americans were lynched in Blakely, including at least two veterans. One of these, Wilbur Little, was murdered upon returning from service in World War I by whites who detested seeing a negro in uniform. In 1960 an African-American veteran from New Jersey who was traveling through the county was convicted of rape and sentenced to death 3 days after his arrest in a trial that featured no defense counsel and no jury. State Route 134 (SR 134) is an east-west state route located in Covington, Coffee, Dale, Henry, and Houston counties in Alabama. It loosely parallels U.S. Route 84 (US 84) between Opp and the Chattahoochee River. Route description The route begins at US 331/US 84 along the Opp Bypass. It heads east into southern Coffee County, intersecting SR 189 and SR 87 en route to Enterprise.
