State Route 295 (SR 295) is a state highway that serves the central areas of Grove Hill in central Clarke County. SR 295 intersects US 43 at both its southern and northern termini. Route description SR 295 begins at its intersection with US 43 just south of Grove Hill. The route progresses in a northerly direction past the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital just prior to reaching its intersection with US 84. SR 295 continues in its northerly track through the central business district of Grove Hill prior to intersecting US 43 at its northern terminus north of the town. History The entire route of SR 295 is the former alignment of US 43 prior to the 4-Lane bypass being built to the west. Grove Hill, Alabama
Grove Hill is a town in Clarke County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 1,818. It is the county seat of Clarke County and home of the Clarke County Museum. History The area that is now Grove Hill was originally inhabited by Creek and Choctaw Indians. The county seat of Clarke County was established at what later became Grove Hill in 1832 as the spot was most central to the rest of the county. Known variously as Smithville, then Macon, the name Grove Hill was selected around 1850 for the large grove of oak trees on the plateau. The town was officially incorporated and chartered in 1929. In 1853, a yellow fever epidemic struck the town, killing many residents, almost wiping out the town. Clarke County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,087. The county seat is Grove Hill. The county's largest city is Jackson. The county was created by the legislature of the Mississippi Territory in 1812. It is named in honor of General John Clarke of Georgia, who was later elected governor of that state. The county museum is housed in the Alston-Cobb House in Grove Hill. State Route 13 (SR 13) is a state highway in the western part of the U.S. state of Alabama. Except for a portion roughly between Berry and Russellville, SR 13 is the unsigned designation for U.S. Route 43 (US 43). Thus, while the total distance of the route is over , as an independently signed route, SR 13 is only long. The southern terminus of US 43 and SR 13 is at their intersection with US 90 and unsigned SR 16 in Mobile. U.S. Route 84 (US 84) is an east–west U.S. Highway that started as a short Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia–Alabama route in the original 1926 scheme.
