Alabama State Route 269
State Route 269 (SR 269) is a route that extends northwestward from Birmingham to Jasper. The route runs west of Interstate 22 (I-22) and roughly parallels that route. Other towns along the route include Maytown, Sylvan Springs, and Parrish. Route Description The southern terminus of SR 269 is at the junction with I-20/I-59 at Exit 120 in western Birmingham. The route leads through the Ensley community along 20th Street, passing by the former U.S. Steel Ensley works. After leaving Birmingham, the route leads through several small communities in western Jefferson County into Walker County. The northern terminus of the route is at its junction with SR 69 west of Jasper. Jasper is a city in and the county seat of Walker County, Alabama, United States. Its population was 14,352 as of the 2010 census. Named in honor of Sergeant William Jasper, an American Revolutionary War hero, Jasper was settled around 1815 and incorporated on August 18, 1886. The first significant growth of the area was in 1886, when the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad and the Sheffield & Birmingham Railroads were completed through Jasper. The population grew from 200 people in 1886 to more than 3,000 in 1890. Interstate 22 (I-22) is a Interstate Highway in the US states of Mississippi and Alabama, connecting I-269 near Byhalia, Mississippi, to I-65 near Birmingham, Alabama. I-22 is also Corridor X of the Appalachian Development Highway System. Designated in 2012, I-22 follows the route of the older U.S. Route 78 (US 78). State Route 69 (SR 69) is a state highway that extends from the southwestern to the northeastern parts of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 177 at Jackson. The northern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with US 431/ SR 79 at Guntersville. Route description SR 69 has a rather irregular trajectory for much of its length. From its southern terminus at Jackson, the highway heads to the northwest as it travels through Clarke County.
