State Route 205 (SR 205) is a state highway that serves as a connection between the towns of Guntersville in Marshall County and Boaz in Etowah County. The highway serves as an alternate to U.S. Route 431 (US 431) through the area. Route description The southern terminus is at an intersection with US 431 in Sardis City. From this point, the highway travels in a northerly direction through Boaz and Albertville prior to turning to the northwest en route to its northern terminus at another intersection with US 431 near Guntersville. History SR 205 is routed along the roadway formerly designated as U.S. Route 241. During the 1940s, US 241 was relocated to the current routing of US 431. US 241 was changed to US 431 in 1953. Albertville is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States, and is included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 22,386. It is the largest city in Marshall County. History The area which today includes Albertville was inhabited by the indigenous Cherokee, until their removal to Oklahoma in the 1830s. It was near the territory of the Creek nation, and several major trails which afforded communication (or military action) between the two nations crossed the area. Guntersville (previously known as Gunter's Ferry and later Gunter's Landing) is a city and the county seat of Marshall County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population of the city was 8,553. Guntersville is located in a HUBZone as identified by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). History Guntersville was founded by John Gunter (1765–1835), the great-grandfather of American humorist Will Rogers. Gunter's own great-great-grandfather, of Welsh-English descent, had emigrated to the New World in 1644. Gunter was the wealthy owner of a salt mine in the early 19th century. In order to obtain more land to mine, Gunter struck a deal with the Cherokee tribe that inhabited the area to use in his household as servants. Boaz is a city in Marshall and Etowah counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. The Marshall County portion of the city is part of the Albertville Micropolitan Statistical Area.
