State Route 136 (SR 136) is a state highway in Monroe County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 21 south of Monroeville. The eastern terminus of the route is at an intersection with U.S. Route 84 and SR 41 near the Monroe– Conecuh county line, at a point east of Excel. Route description SR 136 is aligned along a two-lane road for its entire length. It begins at an intersection with SR 21 (South Alabama Avenue) just south of Monroeville. It travels to the south and intersects US 84 ( internally designated as SR 12)/ SR 41. It curves to the south-southwest and intersects the southern terminus of Monroe County Route 27 (CR 27; Sugar Hill Road). Monroeville, Alabama
Monroeville is the county seat of Monroe County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census its population was 5,951. Monroeville is known as the hometown of two prominent writers of the post-World War II period, Truman Capote and Harper Lee, who were childhood friends in the 1930s. Lee's 1960 novel ''To Kill a Mockingbird'' earned her the Pulitzer Prize. The lasting fame of ''To Kill a Mockingbird'' became a tourist draw for the town. In 1997, the Alabama Legislature designated Monroeville and Monroe County as the "Literary Capital of Alabama". Monroe Academy
Monroe Academy (often referred to as MA) is a private day school, accredited by the Alabama Independent School Association and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which offers coeducational college preparatory classes for students from K-3 through grade 12. Monroe Academy is located in Monroeville, Alabama and was founded in 1969 as a segregation academy. In 1969, the headmaster told the ''Atlanta Constitution'' that he was "sure the integration was one of the primary reasons for the school be established". According to the ''Los Angeles Times'', many parents struggled to afford the tuition and made financial sacrifices to avoid sending their children to racially integrated public schools. In 1982, Jerry Steele, Monroe Academy's first board chairman, stated that the school's lack of racial integration was because the school "is run by the people who put up the money." ''Corley'' (and the associated hamlets of Corley Ash and Corley Moor) is a village and civil parish in the North Warwickshire district of Warwickshire, England. The population at the 2011 census was 668. It is located about northwest of Coventry and southeast of the village of Fillongley. The M6 motorway runs close by, and the area is familiar to motorists as it is the site of Corley Services.
