Alabama Court Of Civil Appeals
The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals is one of two appellate courts in the Alabama judicial system. The court was established in 1969 when what had been one unitary state Court of Appeals was broken into a criminal appeals court and a civil appeals court. The unified Court of Appeals had been operative since 1911. The initial court's members were appointed by Governor Albert P. Brewer. The court is currently housed in the Alabama Judicial Building in Montgomery, Alabama. Judges on the court are elected in partisan elections on staggard six year terms. Today, the court's membership is all Republican but it was composed of just Democrats between 1969 and 1989. At that time, Republican Governor Guy Hunt appointed Robert J. Russell to the bench on April 16, 1989 thus becoming the first Republican on the court. The University of Alabama School of Law, (formerly known as the Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr. School of Law at The University of Alabama) located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is a nationally ranked top-tier law school and the only public law school in the state. Supreme Court Of Alabama
The Supreme Court of Alabama is the highest court in the state of Alabama. The court consists of a chief justice and eight associate justices. Each justice is elected in partisan elections for staggered six-year terms. The Supreme Court is housed in the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. The Governor of Alabama may fill vacancies when they occur for the remainder of unexpired terms. The current partisan line-up for the court is all Republican. There is no specific limitation on the number of terms to which a member may be elected. However, the state constitution under Amendment 328, adopted in 1973, prohibits any member from seeking election once they have attained the age of seventy years. Scott Donaldson (judge)
Scott William Donaldson is a Former Judge of the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals. Education Donaldson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in commerce and business administration from the University of Alabama in 1981, and he received his Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law, graduating cum laude in 1984. Legal career Prior to his appointment to the Court of Civil Appeals, Donaldson served as a judge from 2003 to 2013 on Alabama's sixth judicial circuit court. He was elected to a full six-year term in 2004 and was re-elected in 2010. He also spent 18 years in private practice. John Brantley Crawley (February 28, 1940 – June 4, 2013) was an American jurist and lawyer. John Brantley Crawley was born in Troy, Alabama, on February 28, 1940. He grew up with his twin brother Larry, his sister Nancy, and his younger brother William in Pike County. His parents are the late Wonnie Bowden Crawley and the late William Douglas Crawley. Judge Crawley is a graduate of The University of Alabama and The University of Alabama School of Law. He served as a law clerk on the Court of Appeals of Alabama for Judge George Johnson, and he then served and Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Alabama Department of Revenue. She earned undergraduate degrees from Athens State University and Wallace State Community College and her Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law. Legal career Upon graduation from law school, Thomas practiced law in Cullman County.
