Al Qadam
Al Qadam is a village in the northern region of the Kingdom of Bahrain. History The village is the site of an ancient burial mound which could potentially be a World Heritage Site after the country's Ministry of Culture nominated it to UNESCO. The village was home to Bahrain's oldest herbal products-producing factory, the Al Kamel Factory, which was established in the village in 1855. The factory had to be relocated from the village in order to expand its production capabilities and to meet national and regional demands. In 2008, amidst the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, hundreds of people staged a protest in the village, calling on the Bahraini government to take action against Denmark. Majeed Al Alawi
Majeed Mohsen Al Alawi is Bahrain's former Minister of Labour Affairs. For a short time, he was also Minister of Housing. Under his leadership, the country carried out wide-ranging labour reforms with potentially profound implications for its economy and society. The reforms were not without controversy, and Al Alawi often faced stiff opposition. Media reports dated 17 March 2011 indicated that, along with the Minister of Health, Al Alawi resigned from the Bahraini Cabinet in the wake of the government crackdown on protests in Bahrain. These reports were confirmed on 24 March 2011 when a new Minister of Housing was appointed. Hussainia
A ḥosayniya or hussainiya (Arabic: حسينية ''husayniyya''), also known as an ashurkhana, imambargah, or imambara, is a congregation hall for Twelver Shia Muslim commemoration ceremonies, especially those associated with the Mourning of Muharram. Hussainiya is a multitude hall for the mourning of Muharram and other commemoration rituals of Shia that its name gets from Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad. Terminology A hussainiya is different from a mosque. The name comes from Husayn ibn Ali, the third of the Twelve Imams and the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Husayn was martyred at the Battle of Karbala on 10 October 680 CE during the reign of Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad. The Shia commemorate his martyrdom every year on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram. Karrana
Karrana ( ar, كرانة, from fa, کرانه ''karāna'', meaning "coast, bank") is a village located in the Northern Governorate, Bahrain. The village is nicknamed the "Green Village" because of the excellence of its green palms and its relative suitability for agriculture. The village is located west of the capital Population Karrana is inhabited by 12,000 people, and is home to the Karrana Elementary School For Girls. Historically, Karrana was divided into a group of villages which were: Al Muqaysim, Rozkan, Al Harbadiya, Al Majrafat, but now is considered to be one village. Sawsan Haji Taqawi ( ar, سكس تقوي, born 24 June 1972) is a Bahraini politician and president of the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation. The Council of Representatives (''Majlis an-nuwab''), sometimes translated as the "Chamber of Deputies", is the name given to the lower house of the Bahraini National Assembly, the national legislative body of Bahrain. The Cabinet of Bahrain is the chief executive body of the Kingdom of Bahrain. According to Article 32 (b) of the 2002 Constitution, "executive authority is vested in the King together with the Council of Ministers and Ministers". Jyllands-Posten Muhammad Cartoons Controversy
The ''Jyllands-Posten'' Muhammad cartoons controversy (or Muhammad cartoons crisis, da, Muhammedkrisen) began after the Danish newspaper ''Jyllands-Posten'' published 12 editorial cartoons on 30 September 2005, most of which depicted Muhammad, a principal figure of the religion of Islam. The newspaper announced that this was an attempt to contribute to the debate about criticism of Islam and self-censorship. Muslim groups in Denmark complained, and the issue eventually led to protests around the world, including violence and riots in some Muslim countries. Islam has a strong tradition of aniconism, and it is considered highly blasphemous in most Islamic traditions to visually depict Muhammad.
