Al Hurricane
Alberto Nelson Sanchez (July 10, 1936 – October 22, 2017), known professionally as Al Hurricane, was an American singer-songwriter, dubbed "The Godfather" of New Mexico music. He released more than thirty albums, and is best known for his contributions to New Mexico's unique style of Spanish music. He received his nickname, Hurricane, from his mother. As a child, he would accidentally knock things over; the nickname became synonymous with his band, studio, and a recording label. His signature look, which included an eye-patch, was due to an automobile accident that occurred during the 1960s. These things, as well as his performance style, led to Hurricane being known for his ability to improvise and adapt. Dixon, New Mexico
Dixon is an unincorporated community located in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, United States, on New Mexico State Road 75, just east of New Mexico State Road 68, in the north-central part of the state, and is approximately southwest of Taos. The elevation of Dixon is above sea level. It is on the banks of the Embudo Creek, a tributary of the Rio Grande. Embudo Creek flows into the Rio Grande downstream from Dixon. The town is home to the largest population of organic farmers in the state, as well as several wineries. According to the 2010 Census the population is 926, with 70% of residents identifying as Hispanic. Many non-Hispanics have made their homes here since the mid-1960s. A Tribute to Al Hurricane was a tribute concert held for Al Hurricane, on April 21, 2007 at Isleta Casino & Showroom. Concert The concert had Al Hurricane and his mother, Bennie Sanchez, sitting on stage in couches. While they were entertained by various performers, from throughout Al Hurricane's career. Several performers, such as Al's brother Tiny Morrie got Al to help perform on "La Puerta Negra" and Darren Cordova performed "Mi Amigo" with Al. There was an award presented to Al Hurricane by KANW. Al even performed several songs at the end of the concert, and thanked the performers and audience. Lorenzo Antonio (born Lorenzo Antonio Sánchez Pohl October 3, 1969, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States), is an American Latin music singer-songwriter, who is known and recognized in Mexico, the United States, and Latin America. He was raised in both Mexico and in the United States, and is fluent in both Spanish and English. Most of his songs are in Spanish, but he has released songs in English as well. Biography Early life Having come from a musical family, Lorenzo Antonio was exposed to music as soon as he was born. Sparx is an American New Mexico music band. The band is composed of the four Sanchez sisters Verónica, Rosamaria, Kristyna and Carolina. They were known beginning with their childhood career, in the 1980s. In the 1990s they found fame in Mexico and most Latin American countries in addition to success in the United States, recording a variety of styles of songs including pop songs, as well as Latin music classics, corridos, cumbias, ballads, and boleros. ''The Albuquerque Tribune'' was an afternoon newspaper in Albuquerque, New Mexico, founded in 1922 by Carl Magee, Carlton Cole Magee as ''Magee's Independent''. It was published in the afternoon and evening Monday through Saturday. Scott Ware served as editor from 1995 to 2001. Other notable journalists who worked at the Tribune included Ollie Reed, Joline Gutierrez Krueger, and Terri Burke, who later served as the executive director of the Texas ACLU. On February 20, 2008, E. W. Scripps Company announced that the ''Tribune'' would close, effective February 23, 2008. The ''Albuquerque Journal'' is the largest newspaper in the U.S. state of New Mexico. History The ''Golden Gate'' newspaper was founded in June 1880. In the fall of 1880, the owner of the ''Golden Gate'' died and Journal Publishing Company was created. Discos Musart is a Mexican record label founded in 1948. It is headquartered in Mexico City and remains one of the country's biggest labels, focusing on Mexican music, as well as international releases licensed from various labels around the world. Over the years it has had several imprints such as Trebol, Oasis and Balboa Records. During the 1950s, Musart distributed albums by Cuban label Panart in Mexico. Until Capitol Records opened in Mexico in 1965, recordings by The Beatles were released by Musart Records in Mexico. Capitol re-releases now sometimes use completely different covers so detecting whether a Capitol version is actually an original Musart album or not can be difficult.
