Al Cihocki
Albert Joseph Cihocki (May 7, 1924 – March 27, 2014) was a Major League Baseball infielder who played for one season. He played for the Cleveland Indians from April 17, 1945, to September 22, 1945. Cihocki was born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, where he played sandlot ball with Steve Bilko, his cousin who also went on to play in the major leagues, as well as Pete Gray. He originally tried out for the Philadelphia Phillies organization in 1941 and Wilkes-Barre Barons in 1942 but failed to make the cut for either team. Cihocki then joined the Batavia Clippers as a third baseman, where he had a batting average (baseball), batting average of .342 and was named to the New York–Penn League's All-Star team. After finishing the season, he joined the United States Coast Guard, and served for two years at the United States Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Baltimore. New York–Penn League
The New York–Penn League (NYPL) was a Minor League Baseball league that operated in the northeastern United States from 1939 to 2020. Classified as a Class A Short Season league, its season started in June, after major-league teams signed their amateur draft picks to professional contracts, and ended in early September. In 2019, its last season of operation, the NYPL had 14 teams from eight different states. In addition to New York and Pennsylvania, from which the league drew its name, the NYPL also had clubs in Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Vermont, West Virginia, and Connecticut. The Brooklyn Cyclones were the last NYPL champions, defeating the Lowell Spinners, two games to one, in 2019. Baltimore Orioles (IL) Players
The Baltimore Orioles are an American professional baseball team based in Baltimore. The Orioles compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. As one of the American League's eight charter teams in 1901, the franchise spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, to become the St. Louis Browns in 1902. The Allentown Red Sox (''A-Sox'') were a minor league baseball team, affiliated with the Boston Red Sox and based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, that played from 1958 through 1960 in the Eastern League. The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League or Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP) is the professional baseball league in Venezuela. Sabios De Vargas
The Sabios de Vargas baseball club became a founding member of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League in its inaugural season of 1946. The team represented the city of La Guaira, Vargas and played its home games at the now-extinct Estadio Cerveza Caracas. Team history The VPBL opening game was realized on January 12, 1946. Besides Vargas, the circuit included the Cervecería Caracas, Navegantes del Magallanes and Patriotas de Venezuela teams, which resulted in a revised schedule of 30 games in which each team played its three opponents 10 times apiece. During the first season, the games were played on Thursdays and Saturdays on the afternoons, and Sundays in the morning. When the ballpark was fitted with electric lights, a game was added on Tuesday nights.
