Al Bayda, Yemen
Al Bayda ( ar, ٱلْبَيْضَاء, Al-Bayḍāʾ, not to be mixed with Al-Bayda' in Al-Jawf, the ancient ''Nashaq''), also transliterated as Baida, Al-Baidhah or Beida, is a town in the Governorate of Al-Bayda' in Yemen. Yemeni Crisis (2011–present)
The Yemeni Crisis began with the 2011–2012 revolution against President Abdullah Saleh, who had led Yemen for 33 years. After Saleh left office in early 2012 as part of a mediated agreement between the Yemeni government and opposition groups, the government led by Saleh's former vice president, Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, struggled to unite the fractious political landscape of the country and fend off threats both from Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and from Houthi militants that had been waging a protracted insurgency in the north for years. In September 2014, the Houthi insurgency transformed into a full-blown civil war as Houthi fighters swept into the capital of Sana'a and forced Hadi to negotiate a "unity government" with other political factions. The rebels continued to apply pressure on the weakened government until, after his presidential palace and private residence came under attack from the militant group, Hadi resigned along with his ministers in January 2015. ... Al Jawf, Yemen
Al Jawf ( ar, الجوف ') is a governorate of Yemen. Its capital is Al Hazm. Al Jawf Governorate borders 'Amran Governorate to the west, Sanaa Governorate to the southwest, Ma'rib Governorate to the south, Hadhramaut Governorate to the east, Saudi Arabia to the northeast, and Saada Governorate to the north. Since mid-2011, the majority of the governorate has been under the control of the Houthis. As of April 2020, Houthi forces control all of the 12 districts of the Al-jawf province and 95% of the governorate after the 2020 offensive except for Khabb wa ash Sha'af. On 15 July 2020, a Saudi Arabian airstrike in Al Hazm District in Al-Jawf Governorate killed seven Yemeni civilians. Nashaq
Nashaq (Minaean language, Minaean: romanized: ; modern day Kharbat Al-Bayda', ar, خربة البيضاء) is the name of an ancient South Arabian city in the northern Al Jawf Governorate, al-Jawf region of present-day Yemen, in the territory of the ancient Minaeans, Kingdom of Ma'in. History Karib'il Watar (around 685 BC) launched a campaign to capture Nashan and Nashaq which lasted for three years. Eventually, he managed to subdue both cities, and to dedicate his triumph to his god Almaqah. In 25 BC, Nashaq was mentioned as "''Nescus''" during Aelius Gallus's expedition to Arabia Felix under orders of Augustus against Saba'. However, the expedition ended in critical failure and the Romans accused a Nabataean guide called "Syllaeus" of misleading them. This expedition was mentioned by Ancient Greek, Greek geographer Strabo in which he named Ilasaros as the ruler of Hadhramaut at that time. Sanaa ( ar, صَنْعَاء, ' , Yemeni Arabic: ; Old South Arabian: 𐩮𐩬𐩲𐩥 ''Ṣnʿw''), also spelled Sana'a or Sana, is the capital and largest city in Yemen and the centre of Sanaa Governorate.
