Governorates Of Syria
Syria is a unitary state, but for administrative purposes, it is divided into fourteen governorates, also called provinces or counties in English (Arabic ''muḥāfaẓāt'', singular '' muḥāfaẓah''). Districts Of Syria
The 14 governorates of Syria, or ''muhafazat'' (sing. ''muhafazah''), are divided into 65 districts, or ''manatiq'' (sing. ''mintaqah''), including the city of Damascus. The districts are further divided into 281 subdistricts, or ''nawahi'' (sing. ''nahiya''). Each district bears the same name as its district capital. Al-Ziyarah ( ar, الزيارة, also spelled Zeyareh) is a town in northern Syria, administratively part of the Hama Governorate, located 75 kilometers northwest of Hama.
