Akron Tyrites
The Akron Tyrites were a Minor league baseball team based in Akron, Ohio. They played in the Class B Central League from 1928 to 1929. The team returned to the league in 1932, but then moved to the city of Canton during the midseason and played under the name Canton Terriers. The team was managed by John McCloskey in each of its seasons. Les Mallon
Leslie Clyde Mallon (November 21, 1905 – April 17, 1991) was an American Major League Baseball second baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Braves. Mallon began his professional baseball career in 1927 in the Texas Valley League. In 1930, he hit .332 in the class A Texas League and was promoted to the major leagues with the Phillies. Mallon hit .309 in his rookie season. However, his numbers slipped the following year, and he was sold to Toronto of the International League. He was hitting .345 midway through the 1934 season when he was purchased by the Boston Braves. Mallon was the Braves starting second baseman in 1935, the year they lost 115 games en route to the second-worst record of any MLB team in the modern era. Charles Cloyd Hostetler (September 22, 1903 – February 18, 1971) was a Major League Baseball right fielder for the Detroit Tigers in 1944 and 1945. He is remembered as baseball's oldest rookie, making his debut in 1944 at age 40, and as the player whose baserunning error at age 42 cost the Tigers Game 6 of the 1945 World Series. Akron () is the fifth-largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio and is the county seat of Summit County, Ohio, Summit County.
