Akon Discography
The discography of Akon, a Senegalese American singer, songwriter, rapper and music producer, consists of five studio albums, four mixtapes, one extended play, thirty eight singles, eight promotional singles and ninety-two music videos. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Akon lived in Senegal with his family until the age of seven, when they returned to the United States to live in New Jersey. A three-year prison sentence inspired Akon to begin recording songs in his home studio: Universal Records signed him after becoming aware of his music, and his debut album ''Trouble'' was released in June 2004. Two of its singles – " Locked Up" and " Lonely" – reached the top ten of the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, with the latter topping numerous singles charts worldwide and being certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam (; born April 16, 1973), known mononymously as Akon, is a Senegalese-American singer, record producer, and entrepreneur. He rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of " Locked Up" (featuring Styles P), the first single from his debut album '' Trouble'' (2004), followed by the second single " Lonely". His second album, ''Konvicted'' (2006), received three Grammy Award nominations for Best Contemporary R&B Album, and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Smack That" (featuring Eminem) and " I Wanna Love You" (featuring Snoop Dogg). "I Wanna Love You" (originally titled "I Wanna Fuck You") is a song written and recorded by singer Akon featuring Snoop Dogg. It was released in October 2006 as the second single from his second studio album, ''Konvicted''. It is also featured on Snoop Dogg's eighth album, ''Tha Blue Carpet Treatment''. This song was Akon's first #1 single on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and was also Snoop's second #1 on the same chart. It also reached a peak of #3 on the UK Singles Chart. The track originally had Akon as a featured artist and was performed by rapper Plies from Fort Myers, Florida, but his verse was replaced by Snoop's and his name has been left out from the writers' credits. "Smack That" is a song by American singer and songwriter Akon featuring American rapper Eminem from the former's second studio album ''Konvicted'' (2006). Produced by the latter, it was written by the artists alongside Mike Strange and Luis Resto. The collaboration came after the two artists met during a recording session for Shady Records rapper Obie Trice. The song received acclaim from contemporary music critics for being a great club song. "Smack That" was released as the first single from the sophomore ''Konvicted'' on September 26, 2006. ''Konvicted'' is the second studio album by American singer Akon. It was released on November 14, 2006. The album features collaborations with rappers Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Styles P and T-Pain. Background ''Konvicted'' is Akon's most successful album worldwide. The album received three nominations for the Grammy Awards in two categories, Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. On November 20, 2007, the RIAA certified the album ‘triple platinum’ with 3 million units sold in the US. It has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide. Jay Wayne Jenkins (born September 28, 1977), known by his stage name Jeezy (or Young Jeezy), is an American rapper. From 1995 until 1998, as part of Dope House Records, after which he changed the last part of his stage name to "Bash." UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. "Pot of Gold" is the fifth and final single from Senegalese singer-songwriter Akon's debut studio album, ''Trouble''. Released as a European-only single, the song failed to chart significantly anywhere, peaking at number 77 in the United Kingdom and at number 95 in Germany. The single was not released in the United States, making it Akon's only single to date not to be. A music video for the track, directed by Gil Green, was released to Akon's YouTube account on October 24, 2005.
