Akeley, Buckinghamshire
Akeley is a village and civil parish in north-west Buckinghamshire, England. The village is on the A413 road, between Lillingstone Dayrell and Maids Moreton, and around north of Buckingham. The 2011 Census recorded the population of the parish as 514, down from 545 at the 2001 Census. Village background The village name is derived from the Old English for "Oak Field". The Domesday Book of 1086 recorded it as ''Achelei''. The village was controlled by the Cluniac priory of nearby Newton Longville on behalf of the priory of Saint Faith in Longueville in northern France.Page, 1927, pp. 144-147 The parish church of St. James the Apostle was built in Akeley in 1154. It was rebuilt to designs by the Gothic Revival architect John Tarring in 1854 and restored in 1901. By the mid 20th century St. James' had fallen into disrepair and in 1982 it was demolished. Akeley, Minnesota
Akeley ( ) is a city in Hubbard County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 404 at the 2020 census. History The city of Akeley was incorporated on December 30, 1916. It was largely developed by a partnership between lumber magnate T. B. Walker and Healy C. Akeley, who formed the Red River Lumber Company in 1893. General settlement of Akeley began in 1895. After Walker built a sawmill in 1902, Akeley's development skyrocketed. The mill was once the largest in the state of Minnesota. Thomas B. Walker had intended to build the mill in what would later become Walker, Minnesota, but chose Akeley instead because of his wife's disapproval of the bars and brothels in the Walker area. Because of the mill, and the train depot built in 1899, Akeley became a boomtown. Lumberjacks came and went on every freight train. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and (8.89%) is water.
