Furkan Akar
Furkan Akar (born 6 March 2002) is a Turkish Olympian short track speed skater. He is the first representative of Turkey at the Olympic Games in short track speed skating. He is also the first and only Turkish athlete placed in "Top 10" at the Winter Olympics by finishing 6th in the 1000-meter event at the 2022 Winter Olympics held in Beijing, China. Akar finished third (1:34.780) and gained a bronz medal in the 2023 European Championship 1000 metres race, a first for Turkey. Early years Furkan Akar was born in Erzurum, Turkey on 6 March 2002. Hulusi Akar (born 12 March 1952) is the current Turkish minister of defense and a former four-star Turkish Armed Forces general who served as the 29th chief of the Turkish General Staff. Akar also served as a brigade commander in various NATO engagements including the International Security Assistance Force against the Taliban insurgency, Operation Deliberate Force during the Bosnian War, the Kosovo Force during the Kosovo War, as well as overseeing much of the Turkish involvement in the Syrian Civil War. Meltem Akar (born May 12, 1982) is a Turkish female boxer competing in the light flyweight (48 kg) division. She is the daughter of Şenol Akar, who was between 1975-1980 an active amateur boxer in Giresun. Meltem Akar started boxing in 2006. She is coached by Metin Kısa. At the 2011 Women's European Union Amateur Boxing Championships held in Katowice, Poland, she became champion. Nasuh Akar (10 May 1925 – 18 May 1984) was a Turkish sports wrestler, who won the gold medal in the Bantamweight class of Men's Freestyle category at the 1948 Olympics. Wrestling career He was born in the village Yiğitler of Boğazlıyan district of Yozgat Province. He attended primary school in his village. He completed his secondary and high school education at Eskişehir State Railways School. He started wrestling as a teenager and developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler. In 1946, he participated in the first international wrestling championship held after World War II, the European Free Style Championship in Stockholm. There, things were quite turbulent in the bantamweight division, in which Nasuh competed, as four wrestlers defeated each other.
