Mexican Lacquerware
Mexican lacquerware (''laca'' or ''maque'' in Mexican Spanish) is one of the country's oldest crafts, having independent origins from Asian lacquerware. In the pre-Hispanic period, a greasy substance from the aje larvae and/or oil from the chia seed were mixed with powdered minerals to create protective coatings and decorative designs. During this period, the process was almost always applied to dried gourds, especially to make the cups that Mesoamerican nobility drank chocolate from. After the Conquest, the Spanish had indigenous craftsmen apply the technique to European style furniture and other items, changing the decorative motifs and color schemes, but the process and materials remained mostly the same. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the craft waned during armed conflicts and returned, both times with changes to the decorative styles and especially in the 20th century, to production techniques. Shala (woreda)
Shala is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. It was separated from Seraro woreda. Part of the West Arsi Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Shala is bordered on the south by Seraro, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region, on the north by Shala Lake which separates it from Arsi Negele, and on the east by Naannawa Shashamane(Aanaa); its western boundary is defined by the course of the Bilate River. The administrative center of this woreda is Aje. Demographics The 2007 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 149,804, of whom 74,930 were men and 74,874 were women; 7,680 or 5.13% of its population were urban dwellers. Iyami Aje
Iyami Aje is a Yoruba term of respect and endearment used to describe a woman of African ancestry who is considered to be an Aje, a woman who wields myriad arcane creative biological, spiritual, and cosmic powers. Etymology In Yoruba language, ''Ìyá mi'' literally means "my mother". In Yoruba mythology, Yoruba cosmology, the mother's roles as the force of creation and the sustainer of life and existence elevates her to the realm of the divine. Kevin Joseph Aje
Kevin Joseph Aje (25 April 1934 – 27 May 2019) was a Nigerian Catholic prelate, who served as the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Nigeria, from 1985 to 2011. Early life and education Kevin Joseph Aje was born on 25 April 1934 in Amper District in Pankshin Division (now Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau state). Aje received his elementary education in Amper, Pankshin, Kwa and Shendam respectively. He then trained as a local teacher and taught for a year before proceeding to study for the Catholic priesthood. Aje studied for his Secondary School Certificate in St. Theresa's Minor Seminary, Oke-Are, Ibadan. Priesthood Aje studied Philosophy and Theology at Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan. On completion of his formation, he was ordained on 12 June 1966 in Jos by Bishop John J.
