The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Aiseréens'' or ''Aiseréennes'' Geography Aiserey is located some 20 km south-east of Dijon and 32 km north-east of Beaune. It can be accessed by Highway D968 from Dijon and Longecourt-en-Plaine in the north-west continuing through the heart of the commune and the village on to Brazey-en-Plaine in the south-east. There is also the D116 coming from Izeure in the west continuing to Echigey in the east. The railway line running south-east from Dijon passes through the commune and there is a station next to the village. In addition to the village there is the small village of Potangey in the north. The rest of the commune is entirely farmland apart from the former sugar refinery in the east. The Canal de Bourgogne passes through the commune on the eastern side from north-west to south-east. Étienne Stéphane Tarnier
Stéphane Étienne Tarnier (29 April 1828 – 23 November 1897) was a French obstetrician who was a native of Aiserey. He studied and practiced medicine in Paris, and is often considered as doyen of French obstetrics during the second half of the nineteenth century. Some of his better-known assistants were obstetricians Pierre-Constant Budin (1846–1907), Paul Bar (1853–1945), Alfred Auvard (1855–1941) and Adolphe Pinard (1844–1934). Tarnier is remembered for his work involving the perinatal aspects of obstetrics, and in particular, the treatment and well-being of premature infants. In the 1870s he realized that keeping a constant temperature was not sufficient for a premature infant's survival. He believed that isolation, hygiene, appropriate feeding, and a warm, humid environment were also necessary. A sugar refinery is a refinery which processes raw sugar from cane or beets into white refined sugar. Many cane sugar mills produce raw sugar, which is sugar that still contains molasses, giving it more colour (and impurities) than the white sugar which is normally consumed in households and used as an ingredient in soft drinks and foods. While cane sugar does not need refining to be palatable, sugar from sugar beet is almost always refined to remove the strong, usually unwanted, taste of beets from it.
