Air Åland AB was the provincial airline of Åland, with its head office on the grounds of Mariehamn Airport in Mariehamn, Åland, Finland. It operated scheduled services from Åland to Helsinki and Stockholm. Mariehamn Airport
Mariehamn Airport ( sv, Mariehamns flygplats is located in Jomala, Åland (a territory of Finland). The airport is located some north-west of Mariehamn town centre. It served 61,568 passengers in 2017 and is operated by the state-owned Finavia. The airport has a duty-free shop where passengers may purchase goods such as alcohol without paying VAT and other taxes, when flying to destinations outside Åland, including to Finland. Normally local taxes must be paid in airport shops before travelling inside the EU, but Åland is outside the EU VAT area, to allow tax-free sales onboard ferries and at the airport. Åland is in other respects a part of the EU. The Aero Flight 217 aviation accident that resulted in 22 deaths occurred near the airport in 1963. NextJet was one of the largest regional airlines in Sweden. It was headquartered in Frösundavik in Solna Municipality, just north of Stockholm. The airline filed for bankruptcy on 16 May 2018, half a year after one of its planes was believed to be sabotaged. Mariehamn ( , ; fi, Maarianhamina ; la, Portus Mariae) is the capital city, capital of Åland, an autonomous territory under Finland, Finnish sovereignty.
