Air Groove
Air Groove (in Japanese: エアグルーヴ, foaled April 6th, 1993 ~ April 23rd, 2013) is a Japanese racehorse and the winner of the 1996 Yushun Himba. Career Air Groove's first race was on October 29, 1995, at the Icho Stakes, where she came in first. She came in 2nd place at the Grade-1 1995 Hopeful Stakes. She started off the 1996 season with a win at the 1996 Tulip Sho in March. She then won the first of his multiple Grade-1 wins by winning the 1996 Yushun Himba. Her next victory came almost a year later, when she captured the July 1997 Grade-3 Mermaid Stakes. This win sparked a three race win streak that saw her win the 1996 Sapporo Kinen and the 1996 Grade-1 Tenno Sho. She capped off the year with a 2nd place finish at the 1997 Japan Cup and the 3rd place Arima Kinen. Yushun Himba
The , also known as the is a Japanese Grade 1 flat horse race for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately 1 mile 4 furlongs) at the Tokyo Racecourse, Fuchū, Tokyo in May. History It was first run in 1938 and is the Japanese equivalent of the English Epsom Oaks. On May 23, 2010, in the 71st running of the Yushun Himba, Apapane and Saint Emilion hit the finish at the same time in the race, making the first time that a Grade 1 race in Japan has resulted in a dead heat for the win. On May 20, 2018, Almond Eye won the 2,400-meter Yushun Himba over Lily Noble by two lengths. Rose Stakes
The Rose Stakes (Japanese language, Japanese ローズステークス) is a Japanese Group races, Grade 2 Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Hyōgo Prefecture for three-year-old Thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1800 metres at Hanshin Racecourse in September, having been run over 2000 metres until 2006. The Rose Stakes was first run in 1983 and was elevated to Grade 2 status in 1984. It serves as a trial race for the Shuka Sho. Nearctic (February 11, 1954 – 27 July 1973) was a Canadian-bred Hall of Fame Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Bred by E. P. Taylor, he was out of the Irish mare Lady Angela, a daughter of the British Champion sire Hyperion. He was sired by the extremely important stallion Nearco. Racing career Conditioned for racing by future Canadian Hall of Fame trainer "Pete" McCann, Nearctic had his most successful season on the track at age four, when he won nine races and was voted Canadian Horse of the Year. Hyperion (horse)
Hyperion (18 April 1930 – 9 December 1960) was a British-bred Thoroughbred, a dual classic winner and an outstanding sire. Owned by Edward Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby, Hyperion won GBP £29,509 during his racing career—a considerable sum at the time. His victories included the Epsom Derby and St Leger Stakes. He was the most successful British-bred sire of the 20th century and champion sire in Great Britain six times between 1940 and 1954. Hyperion was by the good sire Gainsborough, who was one of three wartime Triple Crown winners in Great Britain. His dam, Selene, was by Chaucer, a talented son of the undefeated St. Simon. Northern Dancer (May 27, 1961 – November 16, 1990) was a Thoroughbred who, in 1964, became the first Canadian-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby. Kalamoun
Kalamoun (30 April 1970 – 1979) was a British-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Owned and bred by Aga Khan IV he showed promise as a juvenile, winning once and running well in the Observer Gold Cup and the Prix Thomas Bryon. In the following year he emerged as one of the best colts of his generation in France, recording Group One victories the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, Prix Lupin and Prix Jacques Le Marois. He was retired at the end of the season and became a successful breeding stallion in a brief stud career. He died in 1979 at the age of nine. Northern Taste (March 15, 1971 – December 11, 2004) was a Canadian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who raced in France and who became one of the most successful and influential leading sires in Japanese racing history Background Bred by E. The American Jockey Club Cup (Japanese アメリカジョッキークラブカップ) is a Grade 2 horse race in for Thoroughbred colts and fillies aged four and over run over a distance of 2,200 metres at Nakayama Racecourse. This races is for friendship between Japan Racing Association and New York Jockey Club. The race is run in late January and serves as a trial race for the spring edition of the Tenno Sho. It was first run in 1960 over 2000 metres before the distance was increased to 2600 metres in the following year. The distance was reduced to 2200 metres in 1962 before the returning to 2600 metres a year later. The distance of the race was reduced to 2500 metres in 1967 and then to 2400 metres in 1972 before returning to 2500 metres in 1980. It is a handicap race run over a distance of 2,400 metres at Kyoto Racecourse in January. The Nikkei Shinshun Hai was first run in 1954 and was elevated to Grade 2 status in 1984.
