Ain Bandial
Quratul-Ain Bandial known as Ain Bandial is a journalist and media entrepreneur in Brunei. She co-founded and became the editor of "The Scoop" in 2017. It is the first newsdesk run by women in Brunei. Life She began work as a journalist for the Brunei Times in about 2010. She worked on news concerning Brunei and south-east Asia. In 2016 the Brunei Times gave its readers 24 hours notice that the newspaper was to cease publication. The reason given was competition and continuing financial losses although it was also noticed that the paper had published a news story that it had redacted about the cost of tickets to Mecca for pilgrimages. It was said to be a "forced closure". In 2017 Bandial helped create a new and independent news source. The website cost $1,700. ''The Brunei Times'' was an independent English-language daily compact broadsheet newspaper published in Brunei Darussalam from 2006 to 2016. It was owned by Brunei Times PLC. History The paper was introduced at a soft launch on 1 July 2006 at The Mall, Gadong, Brunei Darussalam, and carried the motto "Fresh Ideas, New Option, Global Vision". Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative
The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, also known as YSEALI (pronounced ), is a highly-competitive cultural exchange program for Southeast Asian emerging leaders sponsored by the U.S. Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. YSEALI programs are known to have 1-2% acceptance rates and are usually awarded to emerging leaders with outstanding work and potentials in their chosen fields or advocacies. The initiative was launched by President Barack Obama in Manila in December 2013 as a way to strengthen leadership development, networking, and cultural exchange among emerging leaders within the age range of 18 to 35 years old from the 10 member-states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Timor Leste. Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is an Internews and Internews Europe project. Internews is an international non-profit organization.
