Alexander Aikman
Alexander Aikman (23 June 1755 – 6 July 1838) was a Scottish printer, newspaper publisher, planter, and member of Jamaica's House of Assembly. From 1805 to 1825, he was a member of the House of Assembly as the representative of Saint George parish. Early life He was born on 23 June 1755 at Barrowstounness (Bo'ness), County of Linlithgow (now part of Falkirk Council), Scotland. His parents Andrew Aikman (1723-1785) and Ann Hunter (1730-1759). Ann was the only child of William Hunter and Margaret Aynsley. His older brother was William Aikman (1751-1784). William immigrated to the British Colony of Jamaica in 1775. There, he became involved in the printing business with David Douglass. William died childless at the age of 33. His older sister was Marion Aikman (1753- ). Charles Morton Aikman
Charles Morton Aikman FRSE FIC FCS (10 May 1861 – 14 November 1902) was a 19th century Scottish agricultural chemist and scientific author. Life He was born on 10 May 1861, the son of Glasgow merchant and shipping agent Thomson Aikman (1817-1893) and his wife Janet Morton (1815-1857). They lived at Hamilton Crescent in Partick. He studied Sciences at Glasgow University specialising in Organic Chemistry. He graduated MA in 1883, gaining a further BSc in 1885 and a doctorate (DSc) in 1894. In 1888 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposers were Andrew Peebles Aitken, James Burgess Readman, William Dittmar and Thomas A. G. Balfour. At this stage he was living at Middlefield House in Partickhill. In 1891 he began lecturing in Chemistry at Glasgow University. Chris Aikman
Christopher Aikman is a Canadian astrophysicist who spent most of his career (from 1968 to 2000) at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, National Research Council Canada in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. Early life and education An early interest in astronomy led Aikman to join the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Quebec Centre in 1958, at the age of 15. He received a B.Sc. from Bishop's University in 1965 and a M.Sc. from the University of Toronto in 1968. His thesis was based on microwave surveys of selected emission nebulae in the northern Milky Way made with the 46-m radio telescope of the Algonquin Radio Observatory, including the emission nebula IC1795. David Aikman
David Aikman is an author, journalist, and foreign policy consultant. Life Aikman graduated from Oxford University's Worcester College in 1965 and gained a PhD from the University of Washington in Russian and Chinese history in 1979. He worked as a journalist for ''Time'' magazine from 1971 to 1994, during which he reported on nearly all the major historical events of the time. He has interviewed several major world figures, including Mother Teresa, Manuel Noriega, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Pham Van Dong, Boris Yeltsin and Billy Graham. Aikman served as a professor of history at Patrick Henry College from 2005 to 2015. He is also a senior fellow at The Trinity Forum. George Aikman
George Aikman ARSA (1830–1905) was a Scottish painter and engraver. Life Born at the top of Warriston Close, in the High Street, Edinburgh, on 20 May 1830, was the ninth child of George Aikman (1788-1865) and his wife Alison McKay. The father, after employment by William Home Lizars the engraver, started business for himself about 1825 in Warriston Close, where he produced the plates and illustrations for the ''Encyclopædia Britannica seventh edition''. Gordon Lewis Aikman British Empire Medal, BEM (2 April 1985 – 2 February 2017) was a British political researcher and campaigner. He was Director of Research for the Better Together (campaign), Better Together campaign during the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, Scottish Independence Referendum. During that campaign he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, motor neurone disease. Granville Pearl Aikman
Granville Pearl Aikman (December 26, 1858 – September 29, 1923) was an American attorney and judge who was a Judge of the 13th District Court of Kansas from 1900 until 1913. During his time on the bench, he presided over many cases involving railroad and oil companies, and issued several historically-first injunctions and decisions. A supporter of women's suffrage, he appointed the first female bailiff in the history of the United States, and empaneled the first jury consisting entirely of women in the history of Kansas (second ever in the United States). Michael Aikman (December 9, 1797 – March 21, 1881 in Barton Township) was a businessman and political figure in Upper Canada. Aikman was born in Upper Canada in 1797, the son of a United Empire Loyalist. In 1833, he was named justice of the peace in the Gore District. He represented Wentworth in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1836 to 1841.
