James Cox Aikins
James Cox Aikins, (March 30, 1823 – August 8, 1904) was a prominent Canadian politician in the 19th century. He twice served as a cabinet minister in the government of John A. Macdonald, and was the fourth Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba from 1882 to 1888. Early life and career Aikins was born in Toronto Township, Upper Canada (now Mississauga, Ontario). His father had previously converted to Methodism, and the young Aikins was educated at the Methodist-run Upper Canada Academy in Cobourg from 1840 to 1845. Upon graduation, he acquired land near Toronto and worked as a farmer. Aikins was offered the Reform (i.e., Liberal) nomination for York West in the 1851 Canadian parliamentary election, but declined. Three years later, he was elected to the Province of Canada's legislature for the newly formed riding of Peel as a Clear Grit (i.e., radical reformer). Cox defeated Conservative G. James Albert Manning Aikins
Sir James Albert Manning Aikins (December 10, 1851 – March 1, 1929) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was the leader of the Manitoba Conservative Party in the provincial election of 1915, and later served as the province's ninth Lieutenant Governor. Aikins was born in Grahamsville, Toronto Gore Township, Peel County, Canada West (now Mississauga, Ontario) and educated at Toronto's Upper Canada College. His father, James Cox Aikins, was a prominent Canadian politician, serving as a cabinet minister from 1869 to 1873 and 1878 to 1882, and serving as Manitoba's Lieutenant-Governor between 1882 and 1888. The younger Aikins was educated at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto, receiving his B.A. in 1875. Luke Aikins (born November 21, 1973) is an American professional skydiver, BASE jumper, pilot, and aerial photographer. He is the first person to intentionally dive from mid-tropospheric altitude and land safely without a parachute or a wingsuit and the second skydiver to intentionally jump and safely land without using a parachute. Aikins is affiliated with Red Bull. Sky diving Aikins has coached United States Navy SEALs and NASCAR's Brian Vickers, and has advised the military on skydiving techniques. John Somerset Aikins
John Somerset Aikins (1850 – May 5, 1911) was a realtor, financier and political figure in Manitoba. He represented Rockwood from 1879 to 1883 in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as a Liberal-Conservative. He was the son of James Cox Aikins and was educated at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto. He came west in 1875, settling in Winnipeg in 1879. With his brother James Albert, he was involved in the operation of the Manitoba and North West Loan Company, which had been established by his father. In 1887, Aikins married Abby Lemira, the daughter of Charles Carroll Colby. He served as a director for the Winnipeg General Hospital Winnipeg General Hospital is a hospital that was founded in 1872 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was built on the estate of Andrew McDermot.
