Pointe-Claire (, ) is a Quebec local municipality within the Urban agglomeration of Montreal on the Island of Montreal in Canada. It is entirely developed, and land use includes residential, light manufacturing, and retail. As of the 2021 census the population was 33,488. Toponymy The toponym refers to the peninsula, or point, where the windmill, convent, and the Saint-Joachim de Pointe-Claire Church are sited. The point extends into Lac Saint-Louis and has a clear view of its surroundings. History Pointe-Claire was first described by Nicolas Perrot in his account of 1669, and the name Pointe-Claire appeared on a map as early as 1686. Although Samuel de Champlain canoed through the area in 1613, he reported no village or dwelling visible. Major League Rugby (MLR or USMLR) is a professional rugby union competition and the top-level championship for clubs in North America. In the 2022 season it was contested by thirteen teams: twelve from the United States and one from Canada. Officially sanctioned by USA Rugby—a member union of Rugby Americas North (RAN)—and consequently part of World Rugby, the league was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. With its initial beginnings as part of established amateur rugby clubs in major North American urban areas, MLR began its first season in 2018 as an initiative of the American rugby community in partnership with private investors. Lindsay Place High School
Lindsay Place High School (LPHS) is a former public high school situated in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, on the island of Montreal. It was part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board. It opened in September 1962, named after Lindsay H. Place, a Montreal judge who volunteered for the Protestant School Commission, as it was then known. In the 2006–2007 school year the school began offering a new program to students interested in music. The program consisted of private lessons, multiple before school rehearsals and music theory and history classes, called the Arts-Etude program. The Lester B. Pearson School Board will be moving St. Thomas High School students into Lindsay Place High School on Broadview Avenue in Pointe-Claire in July 2021.
