Aida Shanayeva
Aida Vladimirovna Shanayeva (russian: Аида Владимировна Шанаева, os, Санаты Владимиры чызг Аидæ; born 23 April 1986) is a Russian Foil (fencing), foil Fencing, fencer, team Olympic champion at the 2008 Summer Olympics, World champion at 2009 World Fencing Championships and twice team World champion (2006 World Fencing Championships, 2006 and 2011 World Fencing Championships, 2011). Shanayeva won the gold medal in the foil team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating USA in the final. She accomplished this with her teammates Svetlana Boyko (fencer), Svetlana Boyko, Julia Khakimova and Ianna Rouzavina. Vladikavkaz (russian: Владикавка́з, , os, Дзæуджыхъæу, translit=Dzæwdžyqæw, ;), formerly known as Ordzhonikidze () and Dzaudzhikau (), is the capital city of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the republic at the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains, situated on the Terek River. The city's population was 311,693 as of the 2010 Census. As a result, Vladikavkaz is one of the most populous cities in the North Caucasus region. The city is an industrial and transportation centre. Manufactured products include processed zinc and lead, machinery, chemicals, clothing and food products. 2006 European Fencing Championships
The 2006 European Seniors Fencing Championship was held in İzmir, Turkey, between 4 July and 9 July 2006. The event, sanctioned by the European Fencing Confederation (EFC), was organized by the Turkish Fencing Federation (TEF). 382 senior fencers from 37 European countries competed in the championship's foil, épée, and sabre events. Russia was the most successful nation, followed by Hungary and Romania. This was the first time that the championship was hosted by Turkey. Venue İzmir is the third largest city of Turkey. The competitions took place in İzmir Halkapınar Sport Hall, a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of around 9,000 persons, completed in 2005. The European Fencing Championships is an annual top-level European fencing competition organized by the European Fencing Confederation. History The first competition bearing the name of "European Fencing Championships" was held in Paris in 1921. The International Fencing Federation (FIE) comprised only European federations at the time, with the exception of the United States. In 1936, on the 25th anniversary of the FIE and at the request of the Italian federation, the FIE congress decided to open the European Championships to all countries and granted retroactive recognition of the European Championships as World Championships. After 1937 the FIE focused on the organisation of the World Fencing Championships.
