Ahn Do-hyun
An Dohyeon (Yeocheon, Korea, 1961) is a South Korean poet and university professor. Life An Dohyeon was born in 1961 in Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province. While in high school, he joined the creative writing club 'Taedonggi Literary Society', coming to know fellow writers such as Hong Seung-woo, Seo Jeong-yoon, Park Deok-gyu, Kwon Tae-hyeon, Ha Eung-baek, and Lee Jeong-ha. He received many awards such as various writing contests and creative writing competitions across the country including the ‘Hakwon Literary Award’. In 1980 he entered Wonkwang University (Iksan) to study Korean literature, and he was also active as a member of Guksi, a literary communication journal that was being published in Daegu, along with writers Park Gi-young, Park Sang-bong, and Jang Jung-il. Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province
Yecheon County is a county in the province of North Gyeongsang, South Korea. It is 661 km2 in area, and in 2004 had a population of 52,311. It has lost over 2/3 of its inhabitants since the mid-1960s. It consists of twelve administrative districts (11 myeon and one eup). The county borders Yeongju city to the northeast, Andong city to the east, Uiseong county to the southeast, Mungyeong city to the west, Sangju city to the southwest, and Danyang county of North Chungcheong province to the northwest. The Sowol Poetry Prize () is one of the most prestigious literary awards in South Korea. Established by the publishing company Moonhaksasangsa () in 1986, the prize aims to commemorate the soul of the poetry of Kim Sowol Kim Sowol ( ko, 김소월; 1902–1934) was a Korean language poet famous for his contributions to early modern poetry. Korean Poetry
Korean poetry is poetry performed or written in the Korean language or by Korean people. Traditional Korean poetry is often sung in performance. Until the 20th century, much of Korean poetry was written in Hanja and later Hangul. History The performance of oral songs in the religious life of the ancient Korean people is vividly recorded in Chinese dynastic histories. At state assemblies the chief ritualist would tell the story of the divine origin of the founder, as evinced by foundation myths, and his extraordinary deeds in war and peace. Recited narrative was interspersed with primal songs that not only welcomed, entertained, and sent off gods and spirits. Thus orality and performance were significant features of vernacular poetry in ancient Korea. A famous surviving example dates to 17 BC, Yuri of Goguryeo, Yuri's ''Song of the Yellow Bird'' (Hwangjoga, 황조가/黃鳥歌), written to lament the departure of his Chinese concubine Chihui. Brother Anthony (born as Anthony Graham Teague 1942; Korean name An Sonjae (Hangul: 안선재)) is a translator, scholar, and member of the Taizé Community who has become a naturalized Korean citizen, and lives in Seoul. Life Brother Anthony of Taizé (An Sonjae) was born in 1942 in Cornwall, UK, to Thomas Leslie Teague (February 2, 1914 – March 26, 1985) and Nan Albina Green (July 24, 1911 – February 3, 1991). He studied Medieval and Modern languages at Oxford and In 1969 he joined the Taizé Community in France, a monastic order composed of men from the Protestant, Anglican and Catholic traditions dedicated to spreading the message of trust and reconciliation. After three years' service in a Philippine slum, in May 1980, Brother Anthony joined other brothers in Korea, invited by the late Archbishop of Seoul, Cardinal Kim Sou-Hwan. Wonkwang University
Wonkwang University is a university located in Iksan, South Korea. Founded as Youilhakrim (유일학림) in 1946, it is one of the few academies affiliated with Won Buddhism. Yuilhakrim was succeeded by Wonkwang Junior College (원광초급대학) on 5 November 1951, and gained college status on 29 January 1953. The Postgraduate School was opened in 1967, and in 1971 it gained university status. The university is known for its diverse medical courses: western medicine, dentistry, Korean medicine and pharmacy. Beside medical courses, the school is well known for its specialised courses such as police administration, fire service administration, and law school.
