Ahmed El Shamsy
Ahmed El Shamsy is a professor of Islamic thought at the University of Chicago. Biography Shamsy received his Ph.D. in 2009 from Harvard University. His works examine the historical development of classical Islamic disciplines and academic culture. His studies focus on orality and literacy, the history of the book, and the theory and practice of Islamic law. He has been at the University of Chicago since 2010. Islamic studies refers to the academic study of Islam, and generally to academic multidisciplinary "studies" programs—programs similar to others that focus on the history, texts and theologies of other religious traditions, such as Eastern Christian Studies or Jewish Studies but also fields such as (environmental studies, Middle East studies, race studies, urban studies, etc.)—where scholars from diverse disciplines (history, culture, literature, art) participate and exchange ideas pertaining to the particular field of study. Behnam Sadeghi (born September 16, 1969) is a scholar of religion and assistant professor of religious studies at Stanford University. Biography Sadeghi received his PhD in 2006 from Princeton University. His doctoral dissertation investigated textual interpretation methods used in the Hanafi school of law during the pre-modern period. Walid Saleh
Walid Ahmad Saleh is a scholar of Quranic studies and professor of Islamic studies at the University of Toronto. Biography Walid Saleh attended the American University of Beirut, and graduated with a BA in Arabic language and literature in 1989. He received a PhD in Islamic studies from Yale University in 2001. He received a DAAD grant in 1996–1997, and pursued his studies in Hamburg under the tutelage of the late Albrecht Noth. Saleh has received numerous honors and fellowships. He was awarded a New Directions Fellowship by the Mellon Foundation in 2014, and the Humboldt Foundation in Germany has made him a Konrad Adenauer Fellow (2017).
