Ahmed Afif
Ahmed Afif (born 6 January 1967) is a Seychellois politician and banker. He serves as the Vice President of Seychelles since 27 October 2020. Biography Ahmed Afif was born in Mahé in the Seychelles as the son Abdulla Afif, and is of Maldivian descent; his father was the President of the United Suvadive Republic from 1959 to 1963. Afif graduated from Warwick University in Maths, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics. He had served as chairman of NouvoBanq Seychelles and Seychelles Savings Bank. He was first elected to the National Assembly in 2006 for the Anse Etoile Constituency. In 2015, he joined the Seychellois Alliance as the running mate of Patrick Pillay in the 2015 presidential election. 2020 Seychellois General Election
General elections were held in Seychelles on 22–24 October 2020 to elect the President and members of the National Assembly. The National Assembly elections had been due in 2021, but in July 2020 were brought forward by President Danny Faure in order to hold them together with the presidential elections, a proposal supported by opposition parties. The presidential elections were won by Wavel Ramkalawan of the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS), with the LDS also increasing its majority in the National Assembly, winning 25 of the 35 seats. Seychellois Alliance
The Seychellois Alliance or Lalyans Seselwa was a political party in Seychelles. The party was founded in April 2015 as a split from the ruling Parti Lepep. Its founder Patrick Pillay was a senior member of Parti Lepep. After Pillay contested the 2015 presidential election on the Lalyans Seselwa ticket, the party formed the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa coalition with other opposition parties ahead of the 2016 legislative elections.
