:''The name ''Agriphila inquinatella'' has been misapplied to some related species in the past; see below for details.'' ''Agriphila inquinatella'' is a small moth species of the family Crambidae. It is found in Europe, around the Caucasus area to Turkestan, and in the Near East to Jordan. The type locality is in Austria. Three subspecies are accepted today: * ''Agriphila inquinatella inquinatella'' (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) – most of the range * ''Agriphila inquinatella nevadensis'' (Caradja, 1910) – Sierra Nevada and presumably elsewhere in Spain * ''Agriphila inquinatella elbursella'' (Zerny, 1939) – Alborz mountains and presumably elsewhere in the Caucasus region The adult moths fly between June and September, depending on the location. Their wingspan is 23–29 mm. The caterpillars feed mainly on Poaceae grasses, such as meadow-grass species (''Poa'') or sheep's fescue (''Festuca ovina''). The Alborz ( fa, البرز) range, also spelled as Alburz, Elburz or Elborz, is a mountain range in northern Iran that stretches from the border of Azerbaijan along the western and entire southern coast of the Caspian Sea and finally runs northeast and merges into the smaller Aladagh Mountains and borders in the northeast on the parallel mountain ridge Kopet Dag in the northern parts of Khorasan. William Wood FRS FLS (1774–1857), was an English surgeon, zoologist and entomologist. He was born in Kendal, Westmorland and trained in surgery at St Bartholomew's Hospital. He practised for several years as a surgeon at Wingham, near Canterbury and in London, but left the medical profession to become a natural history bookseller, publisher and naturalist. James Francis Stephens
James Francis Stephens (16 September 1792 – 22 December 1852) was an English entomologist and naturalist. He is known for his 12 volume ''Illustrations of British Entomology'' (1846) and the ''Manual of British Beetles'' (1839). Early life Stephens was born in Shoreham-by-Sea and studied at Christ's Hospital. His father was a navy captain William James Stephens (d. 1799) and his mother was Mary Peck (later Mrs Dallinger). He went to school at the Blue Coat School, Hertford and later at Christ's Hospital, London. He was then sent to study under Shute Barrington (1734–1826), the bishop of Durham in 1800. He left in 1807 and worked as a clerk in the Admiralty office, Somerset House, from 1807 to 1845 thanks to his uncle Admiral Stephens.
