Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) or "Short Course Worlds" as they are sometimes known, is an international swimming competition. It is swum in a short course (25m) pool, and has been held in the years when FINA has not held its long course World Aquatics Championships (currently this means in even years). Unlike the FINA World Aquatics Championships, this championship is swimming-only (the World Championships feature all 5 Aquatics disciplines), and is contested in a short course, 25-meter pool (rather than a long course, 50-meter pool). 2015 European Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2015 European Short Course Swimming Championships (25 m) took place in Netanya, Israel, from 2–6 December 2015. They were originally scheduled to be held in January 2015, but the LEN moved the event to December. The venue of the event was the brand new swimming complex of the Wingate Institute. This complex features an Olympic-size pool with 10 lanes and 3 meter depth, backed by the latest built-in filtration systems, an 8-lane 50 m pool and a 6-lane 25 m pool. The swimmer of the meet honors went to Katinka Hosszú of Hungary and Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy. Hosszú won six gold medals and one silver, breaking two world records and six championship records, while Paltrinieri won one gold medal in a world record time.
