Afekan
Afekan is the goddess of creation and knowledge in the Tifalmin mythology of Papua New Guinea. Afekan lived with men in the beginning to teach them "how to live in strength and dignity", along with the secrets and rituals of men. She also created taro, pigs, and various cultural things. She has a brother, Umoim, who became the first man to die. Afekan is equivalent to the goddesses Afek of the Telefol and Mountain Ok people, Karigan of the Faiwol people, Paatakanib or Fitipkanib of the Mian people, and Fiitiir by the Bimun-Kuskusmin people. Afek (mythology)
Afek is a mythic heroine in the religion of the Min peoples living in Sandaun Province of Papua New Guinea.Biersack 2006, pp. 176-177. Humans were believed created in a multiple birth of the cultural heroine Afek, emerging immediately after the first dog. Afek gave the bush to the spirits right before birthing humans so that they would clear out the villages for the humans to dwell in. Since as such dogs are spirits (and the "older brother" of man), Urapmin do not kill or eat them (unlike some neighboring tribes), nor do they let dogs breathe on their food. Telefol People
The Telefol people are an ethnic group in the Sandaun Province of Papua New Guinea. History Telefol history starts with the "Old Woman" ( Afek) traveling through the land that is now the Eliptaman valley. She, as told through their creation stories, founded the Telefolip, the most sacred of Yolam Houses or Haus Tambaran in the Star Mountains Region about 300 years ago. Myth has it that there is a tunnel system between Mount Fubilan, the Yolam House at Bultem and the Telefolip exists, and that is how shell money and other valuable items came to the Telefol. The Telefol defeated the Telefol-speaking Iligimin people after the Iligimin people razed the Telefolip in the 19th century. The Telefol then proceeded to settle their lands. They then went on to defeat the Untou people, ritualistically cannibalizing the adults and absorbing the children into their group. Mian People
The Mian people (Mianmin) are a people living in the Telefomin district of the Sandaun province in Papua New Guinea. The number of Mian is 3,500, based on the number of speakers of their language, Mian. The Mian are living in small villages in mountainous areas with rainforest and rivers; conditions which makes transport very limited, almost only restricted to walking, which however have helped them retaining their traditional way of life, based on hunting and agriculture, including slash-and-burn. They grow sweet potatoes, sago, bananas, pineapples, breadfruits, pawpaw, sugarcanes, pumpkins and squashes, and in more recent times, also oranges, tomatoes, beans, peanuts and coconuts. Titan (moon)
Titan is the largest moon of Saturn and the second-largest natural satellite in the Solar System.
