Afa (, ; co, Afà) a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department on the island and collectivity of Corsica, France. The inhabitants are called ''afayens'' () or ''afayennes'' () in French, ''afaghjinchi'' (singular: ''afaghjincu'', ''afaghjinca'') in Corsican, and ''afaianesi'' (singular: ''afaianese'') historically in Italian. Geography Afa town is a small town about north-east of Ajaccio, located north-west of the Gravona valley. Highway N194 forms the southern border of the commune and gives access to the town of Baleone. To access Afa from Ajaccio it is necessary to take the turn-off from Highway N194 to Highway D81 heading north to the intersection of Highway D161, which highway leads east into Afa village. Antoine-Baudoin Poggiale (9 February 1808 – 26 August 1879) was a French pharmacist, physician, analytical chemist and a pioneer biochemist. He published ''Traite d’analyse chimique par la method des volumes'' (1858), an early text on volumetric analytical techniques. He examined sugar in human body, the composition of blood, milk, food stuffs, and examined the potential of acetaldehyde as an anaesthetic. Poggiale was born in Valle near Ajaccio to a physician. Educated locally and at Marseilles, he became a student of pharmacy at Strasbourg in 1828 and joined the army as an assistant pharmacist. After field service, he moved to work at the army teaching hospital in Lille from 1831 and then worked in Paris working at the Gros Caillou and then to the Val-de-Grâce hospitals. While in Paris he enrolled at the Faculté de Médicine and received a doctor of medicine degree in 1833 with studies on intermittent fevers. Lionel Robert Jospin (; born 12 July 1937) is a French politician who served as Prime Minister of France from 1997 to 2002. Appietto (; co, Appiettu) is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica. Geography Appietto is located 17 km from Ajaccio, and stretches from the Gozzi mount to the coastline of the Gulf of Lava. This historic village culminates at 480 meters, while the rest of the town consists of several ancient villages (Volpaja, Lava Listincone, Picchio, Piscia Rossa) and recent subdivisions (Monté Nebbio, Chiosu Vecchiu, Vanghone, Filletta).
