Aerocosta
Aerocosta (Aerovías de la Costa S.A., Aerocosta) was a Colombian air company that transported cargo from 1965 to 1976. It had major stockholders, consisting of Floramerica (40%), Robert Camacho (25%) and private investors. History Aerocosta was founded in the city of Barranquilla on July 12, 1965, and began operating itinerary services in June 1967, serving the national territory with Curtiss C-46 aircraft. The company's headquarters were opened at the international airport in Miami, from where international flights with a Curtiss C-46 were opened in the direction of Panama City and Barranquilla in Central and South America, respectively. The founders of the new company were Captain Rafael Ángel Visbal Rosales, Captain Luis Carlos Donado Velilla, Enrique Oswaldo Fajardo, Antonio and Alfonso Ballestas, Herman Olarte and Joaquín del Gordo. LAC Colombia
LAC Colombia (Líneas Aéreas del Caribe) was a Colombian airline that was founded in Barranquilla in 1974. History By an initiative of Captain Luís Carlos Donado Velilla, who wanted to withdraw from Aerocosta and set up a new airline only from his family, he was born on February 28, 1974. LAC started as a limited company and Luis's first partners were, his wife María Fajardo de Donado and his two brothers Orlando and Raúl Donado Velilla. Captain Lucho Donado already had experience in the creation and development of airlines, as he had co-founded LATCO, Aerocóndor and Aerocosta. Barranquilla companies in history were good at achieving positioning and leadership in the air passenger and cargo market. The time to start a company alone was very hard to do however given the conditions of focusing almost all your time on the business. Soledad International Airport
Soledad International Airport was the main airport of Barranquilla, Colombia from 1936 to 1981, when it was replaced by Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport. It was the main international hub in the country from 1936 to 1959. History In the early 1930s, SCADTA based its main hub at Veranillo Airport which was a seaplane port on the Magdalena River which had been operating since 1919, the year of the airline's inception. The airline operated several Fokker Universals and Sikorsky S-38s from the main terminal at the seaplane port to many different parts of Colombia. Since 1929, it had also been an important stopover point for Pan American World Airways, which operated Sikorsky S-42s to parts of Panama and Venezuela. The Lockheed L-188 Electra is an American turboprop airliner built by Lockheed. First flown in 1957, it was the first large turboprop airliner built in the United States. Initial sales were good, but after two fatal crashes that led to expensive modifications to fix a design defect, no more were ordered. With its unique high power-to-weight ratio, huge propellers and very short wings (resulting in the majority of the wingspan being enveloped in propwash), large Fowler flaps which significantly increased effective wing area when extended, and four-engined design, the airplane had airfield performance capabilities unmatched by many jet transport aircraft even today—particularly on short runways and high field elevations.
