''Adverse'' is a 2020 American crime thriller film written and directed by Brian Metcalf and starring Thomas Nicholas, Lou Diamond Phillips, Sean Astin, Kelly Arjen, Penelope Ann Miller, and Mickey Rourke. It premiered at the Fantasporto Film Festival, Portugal's largest film festival, on February 28, 2020. The film earned Metcalf a Platinum Remi Award at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. The film was released theatrically in the United States on February 12, 2021, by Lionsgate. The film received a 75% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Premise A rideshare driver discovers that his sister is in debt to a dangerous crime syndicate. Brian Metcalf
Brian A. Metcalf is an American filmmaker. He wrote, directed and produced the Lionsgate crime thriller film ''Adverse'', released in February 2021. Biography Metcalf directed the micro-budgeted drama/thriller ''The Lost Tree''. The premiere was held at the TCL Chinese Theatre before a limited theatrical release in 2012. Metcalf wrote, directed and produced ''Living Among Us'' which stars John Heard (in his final performance), William Sadler, James Russo, Esme Bianco, Andrew Keegan and Thomas Ian Nicholas. The film was distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and given a limited theatrical release in 2017. Andrew Keegan (born January 29, 1979) is an American actor best known for his roles in television shows including '' Trinkets'', '' Moesha'', ''Party of Five'' and '' 7th Heaven'' and in films such as ''10 Things I Hate about You'' (1999), ''The Broken Hearts Club'' (2000) and '' O'' (2001). Joseph Patrick Michael Leydon (born August 22, 1952) is an American film critic and historian. A critic and correspondent for ''Variety'' since 1990, he is the author of ''Joe Leydon's Guide to Essential Movies You Must See'' (Michael Wiese Productions), and was a contributing critic for ''Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide''. As of July 2021 he has 1225 reviews collected on the website Rotten Tomatoes. He is also a founding member of Houston Film Critics Society, and a voting member of Critics Choice.
