Advance (1884)
The ''Advance'' was an iron screw steamer tug built in 1884 that was wrecked when she collided with ''Inverna'' off Catherine Hill Bay, New South Wales, Australia, on 25 December 1908. Ship service history The ''Advance'' was involved in a collision with the ''Tuncurry'' in the early morning of 30 September 1906. The ''Tuncurry'', under the command of Captain O'Bierne, was making a routine voyage from Pyrmont to Cape Hawke, carrying several passengers and general cargo. About five miles north of North Head (one of the Sydney Heads), it was suddenly rammed by the ''Advance'', which was travelling from Newcastle and hadn't seen the other ship. The ''Tuncurry'' took the brunt of the damage, although Captain O'Bierne quickly decided that the ship was in no danger of sinking. The ''Advance'' was a composite schooner built in 1874 at Auckland, New Zealand, that was wrecked when she drifted onto rocks at Henrys Head, Botany Bay, New South Wales, Australia, on 12 June 1902, whilst carrying ballast between Wollongong and Newcastle, New South Wales. Ship description and construction During the 1870s, the shipbuilding trade in and around Auckland was rapidly expanding, with shipbuilding occurring in numerous little bays and harbours due to the abundant timber suitable for shipbuilding purposes. The ''Advance'', a wooden schooner of 51 tons, was built in Tolaga Bay in 1874. She made her maiden trading voyage in mid-January 1875 from Port of Auckland to Gisborne carrying passengers, 20 tons of coal, lumber, flour and other general cargo. Advance Township (formerly Avon Township) is a township in Pembina County, North Dakota, United States. At the time of the 2000 Census, its population was 143, with an estimated 122 people as of 2009. History Advance Township was organized in 1888 from the northern part of Akra Township. Akra Township was a "double township" at the time, covering two full survey townships. It was originally named Avon Township, but renamed Advance in 1905. Advance is an unincorporated community at the junction of Dover, Chesterfield, and Pike Townships, in Fulton County, Ohio, United States, which is also the junction of County Road M and County Road 13. History Advance had a United States Post Office that operated between 1893 and 1901. Today, Advance remains a community recognized on county maps including the county Fire Districts map, and the county Tornado Sirens map. The tornado siren is located a few yards east of the junction in Pike Township, and serves residents and visitors of all three townships that meet in Advance. Advance (pronounced ad-vance) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Davie County, North Carolina, United States. It is 75 miles northeast of Charlotte. The population was 1,499 at the 2020 census. It is located along North Carolina Highway 801, south of Bermuda Run. Advance is part of the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. Geography Advance is located in eastern Davie County. The Yadkin River forms the eastern edge of the CDP and forms the western border of Davidson County. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.95%, is water. Advance is a town located at the intersection of State Highway 25 and State Highway 91/Route C in northern Stoddard County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,349 at the 2020 census. Advance was founded ''circa'' 1882. The town is pronounced ''ADD-vance''. History Advance had its start in 1910 when the railroad was extended to that point.
