Adolph Cudell
Adolph Cudell (1850 – August 18, 1910) was an architect practicing in Chicago, Illinois (''City in a Garden''); I Will , image_map = , map_caption = Interactive Map of Chicago , coordinates = , coordinates_footnotes = , subdivision_type = Country , subdivision_name ..., in the late Nineteenth Century. Born in Germany, he settled in Chicago in 1873. Among other houses, he designed Black Point in Linn, Wisconsin, and the Francis J. Dewes House in Chicago. Black Point (Linn, Wisconsin)
Black Point is an estate on the south shore of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin, United States, built in 1888 as a summer home by Conrad Seipp, a beer tycoon from Chicago. It has also been known as Conrad and Catherine Seipp Summer House and as Die Loreley The Queen Anne style mansion features a nautical-themed, four-story, "crow's nest" observation tower, which can be seen from many points on the lake; the property also features post-civil war-era furniture. It was designed by Adolph Cudell. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. The state of Wisconsin owns the property and leases it to the Black Point Historic Preserve, a nonprofit organization which manages the property for public tours, which began in June 2007. The estate and its grounds, including 620 feet of shoreline, are protected from future development by a conservation easement co-held by the Geneva Lake Conservancy, a local not-for-profit conservation organization, and the Preserve. Linn is a town in Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,687 at the 2020 census. The unincorporated communities of Linton and Zenda are located within the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 33.8 square miles (87.6 km2), of which, 28.7 square miles (74.3 km2) of it is land and 5.1 square miles (13.3 km2) of it (15.19%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 2,194 people, 910 households, and 620 families residing in the town. The population density was 76.5 people per square mile (29.5/km2). There were 1,901 housing units at an average density of 66.2 per square mile (25.6/km2). Arthur Hercz
Arthur Hercz (June 12, 1866 – February 3, 1941) was a Hungarian American architect and artistic director active in Chicago in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Biography Educated at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Hercz arrived in Chicago in the early 1890s to work on the German exhibition at the World's Columbian Exposition and remained in the city for the rest of his career. Along with his then-business partner Adolph Cudell, Hercz designed the Francis J. Dewes House in 1896, a notable Baroque style landmark in Chicago. His architectural works were primarily residences, churches, and restaurants, and he opened his own studio, Arthur Hercz Studios, in 1916. In addition to his architectural work, Hercz was director of many large public pageants and festivals, often benefiting civic causes.
