Adil Shayakhmetov
Adil Shayakhmetuly Shayakhmetov ( kk, Әділ Шаяхметұлы Шаяхметов, ''Ädıl Şaiahmetūly Şaiahmetov''; born 20 January 1956) was the head of Kazakhstan's National Security Committee (NSC) from December 2009 to August 2010. Personal life Shayakhmetov was born in the village of Kaganovich in Zhambyl District, Almaty Province. He graduated from the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute named for V. I. Lenin (now Kazakh National Technical University) in 1978. He is married, and has a son and two daughters. Career Shayakhmetov began his intelligence career in the KGB's Jezkazgan branch in 1982. He was promoted from NSC deputy chairman to full chairman in December 2009 as a replacement for Amangeldy Shabdarbayev, who was removed from his post for unclear reasons. National Security Committee (Kazakhstan)
The National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NSC) is an intelligence agency in Kazakhstan. It was founded on 13 July 1992. It primarily manages the Border Service of Kazakhstan, which conducts oversight over the international borders of Kazakhstan. The NSC also oversees the Arystan ('Lions') commando unit. History The NSC was created in accordance with a law passed by parliament in July 1992 which authorised the establishment of an agency to replace the KGB, the old national security apparatus of the Soviet Union. Initially, it retained most of the staff which the KGB had employed in Kazakhstan, as well as the powers the KGB had held; its first head, Bulat Baekenov, had worked for the KGB for over two decades. Almaty Region ( kk, Алматы облысы, Almaty oblysy; russian: Алматинская область, Almatinskaya oblast) is a Regions of Kazakhstan, region in Kazakhstan, located in the southeastern part of the country.
