Prince Carl Of Solms-Braunfels
Prince Carl (Karl) of Solms-Braunfels (27 July 1812 – 13 November 1875), was a German prince and military officer in both the Austrian army and in the cavalry of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. As Commissioner General of the Adelsverein, he spearheaded the establishment of colonies of German immigrants in Texas. Prince Solms named New Braunfels, Texas in honor of his homeland. Nassau Plantation (Texas)
Nassau Plantation was a endeavor purchased by the Adelsverein on January 9, 1843, in Fayette County, Texas, near what is now Round Top. A Texas State Historical Marker was installed in 1968, Marker 3550. Original purchase The league of land was purchased near from what is now Round Top, from Robert Mills by Adelsverein officers Count Ludwig Joseph von Boos-Waldeck and Count Viktor August of Leiningen-Westerburg-Alt-Leiningen, at a cost of seventy-five cents an acre. It was named for the Duke of Nassau, in whose castle the Adelsverein was established. The acreage was developed as a full working plantation using slave labor bought by Count Boos-Waldeck in New Orleans, Galveston, and Houston. New Braunfels ( ) is a city in Comal and Guadalupe counties in the U.S. state of Texas known for its German Texan heritage. It is the seat of Comal County. Shelby is an unincorporated community in Austin County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 175 in 2000. It is located within the Greater Houston metropolitan area. Geography Shelby is located at the FM 389 and FM 1457 crossroads in far northwest Austin County. The community is northwest of Industry via State Highway 159 and FM 1457. Round Top is northwest on FM 1457. Brenham is to the northeast on FM 389. Harmonie Hall and the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department are located a short distance to the southwest on FM 389, while the town cemetery can be found a few hundred yards to the south at FM 1457 and Voelkel Road. Count Ludwig Joseph Von Boos-Waldeck
Count Ludwig Joseph von Boos-Waldeck (26 November 1798 – 1 October 1880) was a German noble who promoted the settling of Texas by Germans. Boos-Waldeck was born in Koblenz as the son of Count Clemens von Boos zu Waldeck (1773-1842) und ''Freiin Johanna von Bibra'' (1774-1856). He descended from a line of Rhenish knights and nobles dating back to the 13th century. Boos-Waldeck married about 1827 Freiin Henriette von Wessenberg-Ampringen (1807-1856), the daughter of Johann Freiherr von Wessenberg-Ampringen (1773-1858). He was the uncle of the composer Victor von Boos zu Waldeck (1840-1916). In April 1842 Boos-Waldeck and a few other nobles met at Biebrich on the Rhine, near Mainz, to organize a society, which they called the Adelsverein, to promote German immigration to Texas. The Duchy of Nassau (German: ''Herzogtum Nassau'') was an independent state between 1806 and 1866, located in what is now the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse. Adolphe (Adolf Wilhelm August Karl Friedrich; 24 July 1817 – 17 November 1905) was Grand Duke of Luxembourg from 23 November 1890 to his death on 17 November 1905. Indianola, Texas
Indianola is a ghost town located on Matagorda Bay in Calhoun County, Texas, United States. The community, once the county seat of Calhoun County, is a part of the Victoria, Texas, Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1875, the city had a population of 5,000, but on September 15 of that year, a powerful hurricane struck, killing between 150 and 300 and almost entirely destroying the town. Fredericksburg (german: Friedrichsberg) is the seat of Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 Census, this city had a population of 10,530. Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 and named after Prince Frederick of Prussia.
