Adelaide Bushwalkers
Adelaide Bushwalkers is a bushwalking club based in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1946, one of the oldest bushwalking clubs in Australia. They have contributed to environmental causes such as tree planting, park proclamations and the mapping of remote areas in South Australia, including Wilpena Pound. In 1957 they produced a detailed map of Wilpena Pound which included creeks, ridges, tracks, prominent features and water supplies. The Tourist Bureau printed the map. They marked and cut a track to the summit of St Mary Peak. In 1959 further tracks were cut to nearby Mt Ohlssen-Bagge, and further afield in Mambray Creek and Waterfall Gully. In 1966 they used a theodolite and aneroid barometers to establish spot heights of mountain peaks between Brachina Gorge and Parachilna Gorge, in the Flinders Ranges. Wilpena Pound
Wilpena Pound – also known by its Adnyamathanha language, Adnyamathanha name of Ikara, meaning "meeting place" – is a natural amphitheatre of mountains located north of Adelaide, South Australia, Australia in the heart of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. St Mary Peak
__NOTOC__ St Mary Peak / Ngarri Mudlanha is a mountain located in the Australian state of South Australia on the northwestern side of Ikara. It is the highest peak in the Flinders Ranges and the eighth highest peak in South Australia, with a height of . It was for a time known as "St Mary's Peak", but was renamed according to guidelines deprecating the use of names implying possession. Mambray Creek, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Mambray Creek is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the east coast of Spencer Gulf about north of the state capital of Adelaide and about north of the city of Port Pirie. A post office which was located within section 68 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Winninowie opened in 1879 with the name ‘Old Baroota’ which was changed to 'Mambray Creek' in 1880, then to 'Mount Gullet' in 1924 and back to 'Mambray Creek' in 1939. A school of the same name operated from 1939 to 1972. Name and boundaries for the locality were assigned on 13 March 1997. Mambray Creek’s name is reported as having two possible sources. Firstly, Rodney Cockburn, author of ''Nomenclature of South Australia'', suggested that the name is a derivation of ‘Mamre’ which was the name of a house near Angaston built by a William Salter. Waterfall Gully, South Australia
Waterfall Gully is an eastern suburb of the South Australian capital city of Adelaide. It is located in the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges around east-south-east of the Adelaide city centre. For the most part, the suburb encompasses one long gully with First Creek at its centre and Waterfall Gully Road running adjacent to the creek. The Parachilna Gorge is a gorge on the western side of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia. It is located about east of the town of Parachilna. Parachilna Creek flows through the gorge. Flinders Ranges
The Flinders Ranges are the largest mountain range in South Australia, which starts about north of Adelaide. The ranges stretch for over from Port Pirie to Lake Callabonna. The Adnyamathanha people are the Aboriginal group who have inhabited the range for tens of thousands of years. Its most well-known landmark is Wilpena Pound / Ikara, a formation that creates a natural amphitheatre covering and containing the range's highest peak, St Mary Peak (). Heysen Trail
The Heysen Trail is a long distance walking trail in South Australia. It runs from Parachilna Gorge, in the Flinders Ranges via the Adelaide Hills to Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula and is approximately in length.
