Mariestad
Mariestad () is a locality and the seat of Mariestad Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It had 16,611 inhabitants in 2019. Until 1997 it was the capital of the former Skaraborg County and an episcopal see in the Church of Sweden between 1583 and 1646. History The city was founded in 1583 by Duke Charles, who later became King Charles IX of Sweden. The city is named after the his wife Marie of Pfalz. IFK Mariestad is a Swedish football team based in Mariestad currently playing in Division 3 Mellersta Götaland . Background IFK Mariestad was formed on the 18 December 1985 when the men's football section broke away from Mariestad Bois to form an independent club. Their home ground is at the Lekevi IP. The Sweden national under-21 football team is the football team representing Sweden in competitions for under-21 year old players and is controlled by the Swedish Football Association. The Swedish U21 team came into existence, following the realignment of UEFA European Under-23 Championship, which changed to be an Under-21 competition in 1978.
